I predict a profitable year for Wizards of the Coast, they will public a splatbook and two adventure books, as well as one major release. I'm keeping it tame.

Well sure, but the DM still narrates the resulting outcome, therefore implying some authority over the fiction and the manner in which the rules affect it.

But does it breathe atomic fission?

This is a thread about DM authority, which must, by necessity, be exercised in the case of unruly players. I see no reason why @Oofta's examples contravene... well, anything at all. If this were an argument of player agency in the story, we'd be discussing hypothetical, tyrant DMs.

This is a bit tangential to the issue, but how do my fellow ENWorlders handle NPCs authored in by players? I've found that player retention over family and "friend" NPCs can be useful for relieving DM strain, but quickly becomes unfeasible if said NPC supposedly has access to goods or...

I don't understand how Chaosmancer can assert that groups can handle rules debates without a DM as final arbiter. I understand the thesis of group consensus, but there needs to be a referee, after all. And, as @Maxperson said, these rules questions are exceedingly common, and, at the table...

Not really on topic in terms of the thread, or your call to make, to be fair. It just comes across as exclusionary and dismissive, in my view. Because, you're trying to negate their arguments through the use of this tack.
