Mars Rover Perseverance Landing today, 2/18

What I was referring was more along the lines of creating a national identity by bringing together people which until not a long time before belonged to different kingdoms and putting them to work together on a common project, and in that way providing a set of shared experiences that helped...

Mars Rover Perseverance Landing today, 2/18

If you are referring to the Egyptian pyramids, my understanding is that there is compelling evidence they were built by paid workers, not slaves, and that they were not just vanity projects, but they played a significant role in creating create a national/religious identity for the unified Egypt...

What do space empires fight over?

Boredom. One society has become so advanced that everyone is basically immortal, with instantaneous memory backup and rapid cloning. Material losses are irrelevant and even death is only a minor inconvenience. After a few thousand years of this, people got so desensitized to this that to them...

    D&D and the rising pandemic

From a pragmatic point of view, what is the timescale for vaccinating all the school staff in the area? If it's a matter of few days (I guess we are talking about few thousand people) I don't think it makes a significant difference and depending on the logistics of your vaccination program...

    D&D and the rising pandemic

Minor nitpicking, it has killed about 1.5% of the infected, corresponding to ~ 0.1% of total US population. Not that this changes anything about the gravity of the situation.

    D&D 5E Tasha’s cauldron character thread

At first glance, I did not realized that Tasha included additional subclasses for the Artificer, so I started to play around with ideas for psy warriors and soulblades. Then I went back to the Artificer, and now all I can say is: "I am ... Ironman!"

    D&D and the rising pandemic

Actually, from the same link you posted: "The twitter account said that they are both quarantining and urged those who participated in the events to “wear ya damn mask” and get tested for COVID-19." So both people affected are quarantining. The issue is that they were handling food the day...

D&D 5E Tasha’s Cauldron Delayed Outside North America

I preordered the book at my LGS (EU) a couple of weeks ago and at that time they told me the release date had been postponed by 10 days. Reading the title, I was afraid there was an additional delay but it looks like that's not the case :)

At least this happened. I think they have since removed the tweet (this was back in March).

    D&D and the rising pandemic

I understood the comment I was replying to as referring to the Egyptian pyramids. Clearly depending on what kind of structure we consider pyramids, there are definitely older examples. But as @MoonSong pointed out, you can clearly see the increased understanding and innovations that allowed to...

    D&D and the rising pandemic

There's a bit more than that. The three pyramids at Giza are among the first being built. We know of several (10-15?) later pyramids which are all smaller and/or collapsed, which fit the narrative of "aliens came, help us build the pyramids, left, and we were never able to build something like...

D&D 5E A brief rant about Rime of the Frost Maiden, farming, logistics, and ecology

Catching up on the thread so apologies if this has already been mentioned. Year long winters are a fact of nature in GoT. People have known about this for generations, and use the year long summers to prepare for that. People in IWD have always experienced 'normal' length seasons and now are...
