I can't recommend The Slaying Stone enough. It's super fun, way open ended, and will introduce the orcs that they'll meet down the line. It's probably my favorite published module.

IIRC, there are some Vecna-flavored baddies who can prevent you from using at-will, encounter, or daily powers. Can't seem to remember where I saw that though. Perhaps Thunderspire?

I agree completely. My players have started to understand a loose vocabulary - d6s are almost always minions, d4s tend to be stabby little lurkers, d8s skirmishers, etc. It is not consistent, but in general the bigger the die the bigger looking the threat. I'll usually use a mini for the BBEG.
