Fading Suns Hits Kickstarter

Fading Suns: Pax Alexius hit Kickstarter earlier this week, and has smashed through its funding goal and hurtling towards the $100K level. It's a classic RPG set in the far future when the stars are starting to die.

The Kickstarter is being run by Ulisses Spiele, and includes three core books -- the Universe Book (setting), Character Book (rules and character creation), and Gamemaster Book (example adventure, guidelines, etc). There are also additional books and accessories, like tokens, GM screen, and so on.

Fading Suns was first published in 1996 by Holistic Design. It's set in a medieval-esque space empire, long after the heights of human civilization. It has some of the feel of Dune, WH40K, and so on.

It's not a cheap Kickstarter -- the lowest pledge level is €50 for the PDF version, or €100 for the print version (all three books). But you get a lot of content for you money!

Exactly, this is what the experts are putting out. 12 to 18 months is not far fetched or fear mongering at all. It's just being bluntly realistic.
Especially considering @doctorbadwolf added 'if things don't go well'. With that addendum you could put down any amount of time you wanted and have it be correct. If things don't "go well" it could take 24 months. It could take 30 months. Or more! That's what "if things don't go well" means. ;)

And yet the print edition of Ptolus for 5e was $150, because the unwanted 3rd edition PDFs where being added to the print copy.

Speak for yourself, that's very much just opinion. Personally I wanted those PDF's. I went in at the $400.00 Emperor level and then tossed another $100.00 in on top just to help raise pledge goals and cover anything else that I might snag later on during the backerkit.

Lucky you then, to have that job that enables you to spend $400 in one sitting, especially on non-essential items like role playing books (like D&D 3rd Ed PDFs) in this time of uncertainty.

I guess, this Fading Suns Kickstarter offers a total price point affordable to you too. The part I consider fair with Fading Suns is them spiting the books up without bundling all the PDFs to raise osts, making just the print books affordable for people who come together and buy different books for the group.

I just wish it wasn’t so many books just to play the game. Give me a PHB and I’ll back at the level that gets me that one singular book. I’m not paying that much for a game I don’t know.

Ok - so pet peeve...

Where is the system rundown? I would think that would be front and center on the kickstarter page...

Anyone have a link where they describe what system is used in this new edition of fading suns?

Here's a setting and system overview: Introduction to Fading Suns - Ulisses Spiele | Fading Suns | DriveThruRPG.com

And here are more resources for learning about the game: Fading Suns in the Media | Ulisses North America

Thanks. You are being helpful Raddu, so the following is not directed at you...

All those links are exactly what I am talking about!

Why do I have to download something from Drivethrurpg to know what the system is like?

Why do I have to troll through all their video media links?

Is a two paragraph rundown of the actual game system on the kickstarter page too much to ask?

Evidently, yes. Yes, it is too much to ask.

And here's me thinking that the whole point of a kickstarter page was to sell people on your game...
