D&D 5E Magic Sword Idea - inspired by #swordtember

Thematically, the god would want more value - I think your scale is interesting, but too "cheap"
Fair enough. I wasn't considering it to be a divinely blessed item or anything like that. If that's what you'd prefer, I'd like to see your take on it.

I think you also need to tweak the mechanics a bit. If you spend an action for an effect that last one turn...
The idea was to stop / discourage people from using it more than once in a combat. You can load a coin into the slot outside of combat, but you probably won't want to put any more in during combat since it uses a whole action.

I'm not married to the specific effects or their durations. I'd even be willing to make it a bonus action to load a coin in, and then maybe every effect just lasts for the rest of that turn or something. That way you can use it more than once a combat, and you have to keep feeding it more coins to keep it going.

Still just brainstorming.

I like the core concept, but think a magic item- even a weapon- related to a god of commerce, exchange, wealth, etc. should have effects more related to the god in question as opposed to a pure combat purpose.

I’m also thinking all the coins in the sword should be of the same kind to function at all. Otherwise, this becomes a bit of a “swiss army“ device.

And in keeping with the taxation theme, all the coins are consumed at once, but even at that, 10CP should get you something.

If by my life or death I can protect you, I will. You have my sword...

The rust monster's ability combined with the disarm rules.

On the tax sword, you would need to overcome the 'money is worthless in 5e problem'. You get 100gold for saving the village- yay, not what. You get 1,000 for saving the baron's daughter- yay, I'll buy some drinks and maybe some new clothes since the acid monster may have ruined my old set. Now what, I cannot buy magic items like a potion of invisibility.

It would be really nothing for a PC to spend 10gold each fight, or worse if you can reload this as a bonus action, since the cost is not a burden when gold is not really needed.
