I'm the Straw Man in your argument
"A man-sized, metal cage swings from a chain over the 180-foot-deep pit in the middle of the floor. The cage can be lowered into the pit which opens out into Kartoeba's lair by means of a winch on the balcony."

Looking for a model winch and a cage (roughly 2 inches cubed)
I'm going to contact a model railroad store in the area. Any other suggestions?

I have found some props of the kinds for dioramas or fish tanks in Michael's - like treasure chests and the like - you can try there.

You can also try Etsy for 3D printed stuff.

Thanks!
I'm working on a much cheaper solution. Gonna give this a shot first

Imagine a fortified dam closing off a narrow pass that floods every spring. In fall and winter the dam/wall guards the passage through the mountains, making it the safest for leagues. In spring and summer it holds back the water that would flood the farms in the valley, allowing for a steady productive stream instead.

Now imagine some trolls and giants decided to smash it.

That is what I plan to reenact with this styrofoam that came with my new TV.

I let the foam suggest the story. ;)

Legend
Here's something I am working on for my Sunday game - the party is travelling down a cliff face on a narrow path with numerous switch backs. This is the first time I have tried to create a mostly vertical battle scene. I still have a few things to finish up on this, but I have it at least presentable enough to use for the game.

This box is used by the Hutakaan priests to transport sacrifices to Kartoeba (a cousin of cthulhu)
