D&D General Lodoss War Replay book translated

DarkCrisis

Reeks of Jedi
Someone translated this old Lodoss war book. Love to see the character sheets!

I'm currently reading through it. Love the intro part that teaches (old Basic) D&D. Slayn randomly knowing Harpy as a language is hilarious. And Deedlit's spell is Charm. Sneaky Elf. "All will love me and despair!"

If you've never seen the anime I highly recommend it. It's very D&D and very good to boot!

It's a really great anime. First saw it about 30 years ago. Few years back, bought the Blu-Ray when it was released, and introduced my youngest to it, who loved it.

I am glad Lodoss is getting more attention lately in rpg circles. Not all anime is DBZ or wuxia nonsense, but it can be grounded in the fantasy genre as well.

Furthermore, I always liked the non-western perspectives that are prevalent within the series:

The two warring deities are of order and chaos, not good and evil (an interesting take).

Minions of chaos are not always stereotypical evil, the dark elves in particular are very different from their western counterparts (Drow).

The true villain is neither good nor evil, but is playing both sides against each other in an ongoing chess game spanning thousands of years. Pretty good stuff. Won't say any more without going into spoilers.

Old Basic (and I think original D&D) had just Lawful, Neutral, and Chaotic as alignments. That's it. So of course the Lodoss gods are Law v Chaos. Generally heroes where all Lawful or Neutral. Bad Guys where Chaotic.

I recall there was another series that took place in the same world as Lodoss and it was more light hearted. Does anyone remember what it was?

It's funny, I sometimes look at Lodoss and it makes me wonder if the Japanese ever got to see later TSR settings like Dark Sun and such.

Original Parn v Anime Parn is hilariously different.

Weird that Deedlit was voted favorite character when she's barely in it (as far as Ive read) compared to the others. I mean i get it, only female character but still.
