Hey everyone Frog overlord here,
We've all asked ourselves if we could survive the Zombie apocalypse and of course the answer is yes. We have all watched zombie shows and know its always a simple bullet to the end infact it's almost too easy; but what if there were no guns, cars or any modern luxuries, well then the conversation changes.
(Unless your like me and way too stubborn to admit simple things like that would make any difference)
Well this is where you can finally put those thoughts to rest. Zilight is back! And this time we're heading to Rome more specifically in 64AD during the midst of Emperor Nero's reign and also the year of the great fire that resulted in three quarters of Rome being burnt the ground.
Zilight: Pax Romana
How does the game work & What's new?
This is the sixth edition to the Zilight franchise (each game being set in a different time period) and for the most part the gameplay works the same. Using either a standard playing deck or the custom bespoke deck you'll draw cards to uncover the events of the day with the end goal to survive for a total of 28 days.
The first biggest change to comes in the form of Events which will replace the equipment cards in previous Zilights. If you've backed some of our most recent games you'll know what I'm talking about but essentially events are mini scenarios that happen so rather than drawing a card potentially finding a shotgun or Sword you'll instead be placed into a situation that you must disuse or perish...
Equipment will now be inside of the rulebook which will allow us to add more than the standard 13 we typically include.
Secondly, Pax Romana will use a gamemat. Now all other Zilights do have gamemats included but they are mainly for illustrating where to place your cards; whereas in this case the mat will display Rome as a whole and crucial to the gameplay itself. It is your job to clear out the zombie hordes from the infected areas, that will be noted on said map. This is done by recuriting any NPCs that you may come across and depending on who you choose to allocate to that infected area will determine for how long that area is safe for; For instance, saving and directing a Roman warrior to defend a royal palace will have more of impact than your average citizen earning you more Dignitas. (More on that down below)
Examples of NPCs
These are example 'event' cards from Sinners, Solo card game.
When is the full release coming?
As of writing this post the preview page is now live and we are planning to release early November so you won't have to wait much longer! This is our last Grinning Frog kickstarter in 2025 so we saved our best idea for last.
Zilight is definitely one of the best games to design since any time period is on the table and as soon as we thought to do Rome it was a no brainer (Pun not intended) so we hope your as excited as we are. If you check out our preview page you can see both card and character classes examples.
As well if you have any cool ideas whether its a different game or even a time period of Zilight you can drop us an email!
