D&D 5E Using "Commands" on Familiars and the Like

@Disgruntled Hobbit Sorry, wasn't meaning commanding the familiar and others to anything the player might want. I was more thinking of long term commands that "trigger" when certain conditions are met. For example (though the time taken to issue this command might exceed a "bonus action")...

D&D 5E Using "Commands" on Familiars and the Like

I was thinking about how features and spells like Find Familiar give you a creature that "obeys your commands," especially in Tasha's (has spells like "Summon Creature"). In the descriptions of Find Familiar and Steel Defender, they both have a spot that says "You can use your (bonus or main)...

D&D 6E YOU are in charge of the next PHB! What do you change?

Wait, we do? I never saw anything like that And—genuinely curious—how would it be counterproductive?

D&D 6E YOU are in charge of the next PHB! What do you change?

I know that the thread didn't explicitly acknowledge this, but what if we a Basic and an Advanced version for the new PHB? Both versions would have super-concise rules so everyone is clear on what may happen (still subject to DM judgement/discretion), The Basic version would have slightly...

    D&D 5E Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

Now, I have neither bought nor read Tasha's, and I don't do extensive research or stay up-to-date in D&D news, I have only heard little things—so I apologize if this sounds redundant or stupid. I feel like there should be a book dedicated to being a resource DM's and Players can use to customize...

    D&D 5E Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

Oh, okay. I see what you're getting at. Sorry for getting aggressive.

    D&D 5E Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

But if you take those away, then you'd be taking away the parts that made playing a fighter so appealing in the first place! I feel like making some of the Champion's features (at least Additional Fighting Style and Improved—but not Superior—Critical) a part of the Fighter's baseline features...

    D&D 5E Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

Okay, so, what if we made all the classes derive the majority of their power/abilities from their subclass features, like with the Sorcerer's Sorcerous Origins? (I still would like the Champion subclass to mostly be annexed by the main Fighter class though) So, like with the Wizard, we made each...

    D&D 5E Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

Just so I understand correctly, do you mean "remove" Fighter from the class list?

    D&D 5E Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, x4. I like your thinking!!!

    D&D 5E Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

I think if a group of players doing homebrew wanted to include something like that to their Fighter, they should just have the option/right to discuss it with their DM instead of making new official content to let the DM feel "oh, this is legal then."

    D&D 5E Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

I feel like in terms of class and subclass features—class-spell lists aside—all the classes are pretty somewhat balanced (except Wo4E monks and lvl 1 rangers). I feel like the main issue with balancing the spellcasting classes with the non-spellcasting classes are the spell lists. — Now...

D&D 6E YOU are in charge of the next PHB! What do you change?

I decided to change my post to just have a link since the post was really long. D&D 6E changes [Edits] : 1. Suggested reducing the level cap for full casters

D&D 6E YOU are in charge of the next PHB! What do you change?

J.W.2.S I'm posting this without looking at the thread, just the post. These are all changes I'd make to the 5E PHB, keeping the rest the same. D&D 6E changes

    D&D 5E Should D&D Have a 9th School of Magic (Restoration)?

Shoot, I completely forgot about that! Good point.

    D&D 5E Should D&D Have a 9th School of Magic (Restoration)?

Honestly, we should have spells be classified by their general purpose(s), and only use schools of magic when wizards are involved (like Healing, Creation, or Resurrection magic [for most spellcasters]; and having the wizard's spells be assigned to specific schools).

    D&D 5E Should D&D Have a 9th School of Magic (Restoration)?

So, when reading the flavor text in the 5e PHB that describes what evocation and necromancy are, it would make sense that healing spells like cure wounds and prayer of healing would fall under the evocation category. Evocation is classified as manipulating "magical energy to produce a desired...
