D&D 5E Sneak Attack with spells?

You are both right and wrong. A spell can create a weapon. Spiritual weapon from the cleric spell is such an example. Firebolt is not. If the spell create such a weapon, then sure. Otherwise, tough luck.

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

I still do not know where you got that humans are the newbie race. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is only one thing for noobs. And it is the Champion. All other classes are meant to be played by everyone. And even the Champion can get a bit too much to chew on for a newbie...

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

Nahhhhh.... Humans never were newbie race of choice. Nor any races for that matter. I could bet my shirt you've had this at least once in your game in 1ed. Ok you're new. You should play a... fighter. Ok. I'll be a dwarf like Gimli! Ok. Dwarf fighter it will be. Or a Legolas (fighter with bow)...

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

I think @Lyxen got it right And I should add, 5ed is already newbie friendly. Not a lot of complicated thing to understand. You can play from the get go right off the bat with the downloadable ruleset. Yes, some rules are opened for debate (I look at you hiding rule) but nothing on the...

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

Humans never were a newbie race in any edition. In BECMI, 1st, and 2nd they were the only race with unlimited advancement in any classes. In 3ed, they were the only race that could choose any class as a favored one. Other races were stuck with only one class as favored. 4ed made them more or...

D&D 5E How do you account for Dwarves in heavy armor using variant encumbrance?

This is my understanding too. I would rule the same.

Games Workshop notes that space fascism would be bad

That they have to remind people of this is beyond me.

Are you talking about the Next? I still have those and nothing is said about that. Humans were never the newbee race.

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

And I the same. I wish TCoE never came out. It felt rushed out and a lot of its implementations are open for abuses. Some ideas are good, some are great but most were not tested out correctly or with powergamers in mind. But I will admit that the last Floating ASI incarnation is a lot less...

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

Right from the first page. You have your answer. Also, why limit yourself, or us, to only one book. I much prefer core books but ASI are from TCoE afterall. Why should we not use the source of all evil? (Joking here).

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

Ok. Dwarven wizard or sorcerer, +2 Intel, +2 con. With medium armor, it takes one more feat for the VHuman to get medium armor and the vhuman still needs to somehow get darkvision. And the one I am thinking of, also took heavy armor as a feat. So yeah, there are things that can be better out...

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

A few flukes, a rule do not make. There are bound to be table that will restrain themselves. But a lot more will not. So far, as I said, if you followed, I know of 5 tables using floating ASI and four of these are powergaming the floating ASI and one does not. And I know a lot more tables that...

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

I do believe that all floating ASI methods are to be considered. At some point, dwarves, elves and other races not related feywild were mentioned. I am also aware of a table using exclusively TCoE method of +2/+1, 1 skill and one feat for all races, be they established or not. This prevents a...

Yep. See the problem with TCoE now?

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

If the player is truly pursuing power and power only. Fixed ASI force him to choose only the race that will give his character the stats that he wants for his character. Some races might come with a negative aspect (bad reputation to fight/overcome) depending on the world and DM's style. This...

    And I the same. :)

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

No. I simply claim that fixed ASI can do what you claim floating ASI can with the same results and with no power creep. Why do people on this forum always assume that someone stating a fact is claiming moral high ground? I never claimed that my view was morally superior. I just debunk the fact...

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

    1) power creep is not always by leaps and bounds. It is often comming by a small increment here, an other there and so on. 2) When was your palette ever was constrained with fixed ASI? Never was it constrained but what your own vision of the game told you. A halfling barbarian is quite fine...

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

Isn't it what we are doing right now? So with fixed ASI you would not have done some builds but with floating you suddenly will? That is the very defenition of powercreep. Roleplaying does not care if the build is suboptimal. You role play. That is all you need to do. But if you absolutely want...

D&D General How do you like your ASIs?

That was quite easy before with fixed ASI. Beside the power creep, floating ASI changes nothing as to what race you can play. Yes, some choices are suboptimal from an optimizer's point of view but from a role play and concept PoV nothing is changed except power creep. Floating ASI are simply a...
