    D&D 5E A "Fewer" Features Variant!?! (+)

    Careful you'll give WotC ideas....

D&D 5E Point buy vs roll

I've used both and I definitely prefer point buy overall. Rolled stats just end up with a party member having what's essentially a fodder character who is often destined to die pretty fast. That said when I next make a character in person with my group I'll probably use rolled as I've not had a...

D&D 5E A Compilation of all the Race Changes in Monsters of the Multiverse

Yep same. At this point it's pretty much assumed. Would much rather it was rare with only a few species having it.

D&D 5E A Compilation of all the Race Changes in Monsters of the Multiverse

I'm not a fan of PB based features on classes or subclasses due to the risk of multiclass shenanigans. I like it on racial features as it keeps them scaling nicely over the course of the game and ensures they remain relevant even at later levels.

D&D 5E A Compilation of all the Race Changes in Monsters of the Multiverse

Lots of things I really like. Some things I dislike. The PB times per long rest is something I really like for species mechanics, as it keeps them scaling over the game. It's nice to see certain genasi as less useless as they're my favourite race. However I absolutely hate the fact that they...

    D&D 5E To much 5th edition content?

I feel it's pretty baked in when your warlord yelling at people gets counterspelled. Or they randomly lose the ability to yell at people in an anti magic field. Or they have to yell at people through a spellcasting focus.

    D&D 5E To much 5th edition content?

Except you can't. The entire thing about warlord is that it's a support class which isn't magic. Saying 'just play a magic class' defeats the point completely. A battlemaster is 75% smashing stuff, 25% support. It's like saying eldritch knight would be a good replacement for wizard...

    D&D 5E To much 5th edition content?

Yeah that's another issue with a gish class focused around hitting magically. That's been moved more onto paladin this edition. But then despite paladin's theme being expanded, it doesn't even remotely approach arcane/elemental themed subclasses. Ranger also has some spells focused on weapon...

    D&D 5E To much 5th edition content?

Yep that's the thing. We have so many gish subclasses and yet none of them bring anything like the prior edition gishes did to the table. If you add more, you're just adding to the bloat even more. If you don't add more, those gaps remain unfilled. It's a no win situation.

Magus is the Pathfinder copy of Duskblade. Witch is the Pathfinder version of Warlock.

    D&D 5E To much 5th edition content?

Classes is the main thing. Of which warlord is the most obvious. We have battlemaster which has a few support focused features, but in the end it's still a front line hit things class. We still don't have a psion either. And despite having tons of gish subclasses, we don't have any which...

    D&D 5E To much 5th edition content?

I think a lot of the 'bloat' is due to how much of a mess of inconsistencies, patches, and replacements the edition has become. All the while still failing to manage certain concepts at all. You could easy have more content without it being bloated if it was actually consistent, organised, and...

D&D 5E List of All 33 Races in Mordenkainen's Monsters of the Multiverse

I actually suspect that small and medium will get merged in 5.5e. The terms will still be there to keep backwards compatibility, but their actual rules will become 100% identical.

Is air genasi now hurting every single player race which doesn't get 35 movement speed?

Weird how everyone is fine with certain player species being 35 feet movement, but object to some being 25 foot movement.

D&D General How many mechanical features does a race need to feel "right"?

Except those are race related powers. Aarokoca have wings, therefore they can fly. That's not related to class or feats in any way. That's just an innate mechanical part of being an aarokoca.

D&D General How many mechanical features does a race need to feel "right"?

Yep just remove the +2/1 from player races altogether, and build it into the part of the game where you select your scores. If it's identical for everyone, then how is +1 in score select any different to +1 in race select?
  19. Frozen_Heart

D&D General How many mechanical features does a race need to feel "right"?

Yeah that does make it difficult. People consider humans 'the default' which also means not much in the way of impactful unique mechanics. So then when you get a species which is not close to that and have to give it a load of abilities to feel right (e.g. flight), they're clearly more powerful...

D&D General How many mechanical features does a race need to feel "right"?

I wouldn't call things like flight, water breathing, a mouth full of sharp teeth, or being able to breath fire 'just fluff'.
