    WotC Can we salvage Toril?

I liked (my first DMing) AD&D Oriental Adventures, which is 1986 came with text descriptions of the lands and no map. It was not set in FR originally - meant for Greyhaw, supposedly - and I ran it as its own place. It’s the word “oriental” that’s a problem (much less 36 years ago), rather...

    Common

I run Greyhawk, and my interpretation is Greyhawk Common is the official language of the Great Kingdom, derived from Old High Oeridian with Suloise and Flannae loan words. (Since Greyhawk is the or setting, I assume the Lake Geneva crew meant something like that, and the concept may not fit as...

    Common

This is meant to be an opinion question. Even if there were a canon answer, folks might ignore it anyhow. I like the answer that Elvish is universal, but Common is not.

    Known World source?

I PLAYED in a Hollow World in 1988, but I think the DM was homemaking it.

    Known World source?

Thanks, especially for the link. At 240 pages, it’s longer than what I’m looking, but otherwis, yeah, exactly what I was looking for. In my Cart, but haven’t decided if I’ll buy it yet.

    Common

Should Common, Elvish, Orcish, etc. be the same language across different settings like Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, and Known World? Or each has its own unintelligible version?

D&D General How am I a D&D outlier? How are you one?

My unusualness: Long campaign - me too. Always many year, but I don’t play 5e except if someone else is running it. 3.5e for me. I convert materials from other editions all the time. Running 1e module for one party, 3e stuff for another. I’ve converted from Basic, 1e, 2e, 3e, 5e, and PF1...

    Known World source?

I’m interested in a quick, basic source for Basic info on the Known World setting. Something like the Greyhawk Folio, or the original AD&D 1e boxed sets for Greyhawk or Forgotten Realms. Just the main parts, not the other continents or the Known World. Karameikos, Darokin, Thyatis, all...

D&D 1E Any 1e (or 2e) iconic dungeons that never made it to the top 30 list in dungeon magazine?

Interesting that the strong majority are set in Greyhawk, but WotC by far favors Forgotten Realms. Novels > modules, it seems.

D&D 1E Forgotten Realms in AD&D 1st Edition a better setting for adventures?

I decided the PC (a 10th level Monk) of a player who hasn't been with us for a while got hit with Dismissal while guarding away from the group. I decided to use random determination on where he went (from the Fire Node of the Temple of the Elemental Evil, a sort of demiplane off Greyhawk)...

D&D General How important is leveling to the play experience (lvls 2-8)?

For the world itself, I do not scale it to the PC’s levels. Town guards are always going to be 1st level (or 0 level for editions with that), regular wolves will always be regular wolves, and giants and dragons are in the world and scary tough from the beginning, not just once you’ve leveled...

OSR Great standalone fleshed out settlements

is that the source for the Nentir Vale setting? I’ve searched for a source for that and couldn’t find it.

OSR Great standalone fleshed out settlements

Raging Swan has an entire series of villages - 5 books of them - and they’re good. For OSR, get the PF1 version, and it’s mostly 3e compatible, so semiconvertible to AD&D or OSR. You get them from DriveThruRPG or Raging Swan’s website.

    D&D 3E/3.5 N3: Destiny of Kings Conversion

Castle Amber is the only one I don’t have. I’ve used “Into the Borderlands“ and now I’m using TOEE specifically for the Nodes. I built out the Earth Node myself, but I’m using their Fire Node. I suspect, given the ~5% complete nature of the original Nodes, that old play of them varied a ton...

D&D 1E Forgotten Realms in AD&D 1st Edition a better setting for adventures?

That’s the sort of thing I mean. Dismissal is one just person, so best to be “focused” a liveable place with a chance to make it home.

D&D 1E Forgotten Realms in AD&D 1st Edition a better setting for adventures?

I run Greyhawk campaigns, but right now one of the parties is in the Temple of Elemental Evil, 1e dungeon run in 3.5e rules. Anyhow, they are in Elemental Nodes, which are sort of like Demiplanes. So a Dismissal spell has an 80% chance of sending someone to their home Plane, but to me the...

Is D&D better focused, broad or stepped?

I think most/all editions can do dungeon crawl or stepped. Rules for starting a little realm of your own existed in AD&D, 2e, and 3.x for sure.

D&D 2E Would you be interested in a 1e or 2e combat simulator to play with?

I wouldn’t use it (because I ru. 3.5e), but I encourage you to make it. Why not? I’ve run “battles” with up to about 150 on a side by actually rolling the dice in AD&D and 3.5e. It takes a lot of dice, but it’s fun once a decade or so.

D&D 5E How much should my party pay for a WereTiger Merc?

The weretiger should ask for 2 shares of treasure, and first dibs to “buy” magic items with its share, plus all expenses (food, arrows, healing, etc.) and a minimum of “x”. I’d say X is 100 gp a week, but it depends on campaign economic. That’s the starting demand. Negotiable depending on how...
