Making Religion Matter in Fantasy RPGs

DnD is at the base a cooperative experience. Some party like to play the dysfunctional family for fun. See the guardians of the galaxy. but otherwise, find other players or DM.

Making Religion Matter in Fantasy RPGs

Refused to heal someone in the party! Classic piss off play style, that some table enjoy very much, but usually they don’t even need religion to do so!

    D&D 5E Separating Knowledge from Skill (+)

I wouldn’t suggest to remove ability scores from DnD. Sacred cow are immovable by definition! This thread open up a can of worm, the more we dig in the relation of skills and abilities the more we find new applications. so keep in mind we are speaking of a game, and use all those new links to...

D&D General do subcultures have different stories infused into them?

Home brew world building is cool and fun, but as a writer it take time, work, error, rework, gameplay, to get better. Put your ideas paper, share them, DM with them. Don’t start to big and let you space to rework everything.

D&D General do subcultures have different stories infused into them?

For home brew it can be anything. You can even reverse usual canon from DnD, making fey wild elves raider and slaver lead by a mad archFey, and elves who live in the under dark refugee and castaway.

D&D General do subcultures have different stories infused into them?

Aside the semantic debate, obviously elves who live mainly in the under dark should have different story than elves who live in the fey wild.

    D&D 5E Separating Knowledge from Skill (+)

A lot of skills should rely on more than one ability. Deception is a matter of charisma, intelligence, and even wisdom, and physical stance. The list of single ability skill bugs can be long. one solution can be to rely only on proficiency bonus. skill bonus = PB for untrained, or simply a flat...

    D&D 5E More Organic Dungeons

Core assumption for DnD is an heroic game, to role play heroic character. of course a DM may change the game style and ask to role play cautious and doubtful characters. In my experience every time a DM has try to push to hard that way, I seen opposite effects : jokes, reckless move, shoot first...

    D&D 5E More Organic Dungeons

Any players that wrong guess a monster treath and start a sure TPK fight will keep living. They will roll new characters sipping latte and eating pizza, saying « ho we didn't see that coming!! Ha ha ha ». Harsh consequence for players bad decisions is a DM phantasm!

    D&D 5E More Organic Dungeons

Despite the funny comment, I think that DM in such organic environment should give more clues about possible threats. it is not railroading to describe a monster « way above your pay grade. » Of course if the DM lure PCs by hiding CR 15 into mouse like description, players will turn paranoid and...

D&D 5E Buying magic items, yes or no?

It’s a good thing that DM control magic item market. but it can be nice, to buy or trade items, and price should not stick to DM guide. I think that DM should not hesitate to craft item designed for actual PCs, and insert them in different occasions Hoard, buy, trade, paiement.

D&D 5E Ability score generation: "buy your dice roll"

I though at first it was about paying the DM for better score! I like the method, multiple kind of roll, some strategy, may help some.

Making Religion Matter in Fantasy RPGs

For gods intervention I see there levels. Distant god. No impact other than cleric spells and powers. Serve as ideal and faith focus. Direct intervention are legendary but happen once a thousand years or more. Active god. Gods have agenda, send request to cleric, may alter cleric casting...

Making Religion Matter in Fantasy RPGs

DM guide offer all the liberty to create pantheon and multiverse as various and silly as a DM may want. So there is no restrictions there. Religion can take various place in a kingdom or empire. Almost inexistant. A kind of public service, helping the poor, supervising social ceremonies. An...

    D&D 5E Limiting Cantrips?

DnD is a kind of game where by RAW you can change the rules! The beginning of chapter 9 in DMG gives some hints about that. main hint Does the rule improve the game? Do the players like it? I remember another thread about GWM and SS where a furious opponent of these feats confess that indeed...

    D&D 5E Limiting Cantrips?

Honestly I approve DM who try to house rule the game, the optimal test is the game play experience, if it is satisfying for all, you house rule well.
