D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

T-Rexes are all about the chomping. Wooly mammoth is better, they have a trampling charge. :)

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

When it comes to prisoners, I just explain that there are no prisons for the vast majority of people. If a person is arrested, they may be held until a trial but punishment is usually swift and by modern standards, brutal. Prisons and long term incarceration for any but the wealthy and...

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

Why did I have the image in my head of you kicking someone into a pit as you yelled "This is Dungeons & Dragons!"

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

A moral compass to me is completely separate from preferences for games. What kind of entertainment I enjoy has nothing to do with my personal morality and choices as a DM. It's just odd that you even mentioned it or that you think you have a clue as to what I think or believe because of how...

Vanilla is the second most popular flavor of ice cream after chocolate. Dang. Now I'm hungry for ice cream.

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

Which is why it's important to discuss with the people at the table and potential new players to set expectations. I can't be the right DM for everyone, I have some limitations such as no evil PCs that have meant people chose not to continue playing. There's room for a wide variety of styles...

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

It is kind of funny. I don't think twice about sniping an enemy in Far Cry, but I feel guilty if I accidentally run over a dog.

D&D General Large Scale Battles - How do you DM them?

I've always just had the PCs be a special unit. Sometimes they're charged with gathering intel on the enemy, taking out an enemy siege machine or defending a defensive weak point. They're the equivalent of special ops forces, not grunts on the front line, although that may not be how they...

D&D General What Would Happen if Fiends Came to Fill the "Low CR Monsters" Niche?

I could. I don't. I don't think it would add anything to my game and there's already too much lore for most of my players to truly absorb. Why do you feel the need to tell me I'm running my game wrong? Why does this always come back to some people proselytizing their one true way? I...

D&D General What Would Happen if Fiends Came to Fill the "Low CR Monsters" Niche?

If people are fighting goblins there's a reason for it in my games. I just have little use for goblins that are not evil, I have a few as a result of a long ago campaign choice. Same way that if fiends are not born of evil I would never include them in my game.

D&D General What Would Happen if Fiends Came to Fill the "Low CR Monsters" Niche?

I suspect that if we did this, there would suddenly be a demand for fiends as a playable race and we'd be right back to square one. You can certainly do it now. While the majority of enemies in my campaigns are human, the monstrous races I do have have ties to evil deities or origins. Orcs...

    D&D 5E Climbing walls etc?

If it's really an issue you can specialize and you'll be decent. If you're the DM ask for a dexterity check adding your athletics proficiency. Nobody said the game was perfect and sometimes there are tradeoffs. Go strength instead of dex and you will have inferior initiative and dexterity...

    D&D 5E Climbing walls etc?

Depending on the situation there are times I allow an acrobatics check to climb. If you've ever seen Jackie Chan do that "climb a wall by bouncing off two walls at a corner to get to the top. But sorry. High dex does not grant you the world. It's already the most overvalued ability score in...

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

People have all sorts of obstacles in their day to day life. Some they can change, some that would be difficult or costly to change, some that are impossible. That boss at work that won't give you the credit you deserve. That old phone that's on it's last legs and has a cracked screen but you...

How am I supposed to interpret As anything other than a comment on my morality?

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

Sometimes, yes. Other times it's just stress relief and a game. There is no one true way, there is no one reason to play the game. Nowadays I play with adults and we acknowledge that it's just a game.

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

It's worked well enough for a lot of people going on half a century now. Doesn't mean that it works for everyone of course. I understand your stance but there has been study after study. Violence in games has little to no correlation to violence or morals in real life. Telling a person that...

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

Sometimes I want a complex game with meaningful choices. Sometimes I just want to kick ass and chew bubblegum. Except I don't ever chew bubblegum.

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

I simply accept that games are not real. Has nothing to do with real world morality.

D&D General I really LOVE Stomping Goblins

The enemies were human soldiers. At times you would overhear their conversations. I assume all humans are complex, making them nameless grunts doesn't change anything. Yet I still killed them without remorse.
