D&D 5E Homebrew: Limiting spell slot recovery when suffering from exhaustion levels?

it's even better the more I think about it, it harks back to the good old "lose one level" dreaded feature of the D&D rules of old... it was the most hated and nasty danger back then...

D&D 5E Homebrew: Limiting spell slot recovery when suffering from exhaustion levels?

This is an excellent way, thank you, taking the previous replies further with good logic... I can't wait for the howlings in protest at my table... ;-)

D&D 5E Homebrew: Limiting spell slot recovery when suffering from exhaustion levels?

very good points... that said, the current restrictions due to exhaustion are mostly physical in nature, and therefore will tend to disadvantage non-casters more than casters, who can stay out of battles more easily while still being effective through their spells... that's why initially I was...

D&D 5E Homebrew: Limiting spell slot recovery when suffering from exhaustion levels?

Thank you - yeah, it's sure easier this way, and I thought about this also but found that not limiting the amount of slots is perhaps a loophole, especially, if it's only one exhaustion point that the character suffers... anyway, it's a slightly different flavour but the same recipe. Thank you B-)

D&D 5E Homebrew: Limiting spell slot recovery when suffering from exhaustion levels?

I'm trying to find/construct a reasonable and reasonably easy mechanic to limit spell slot recovery after long rest, if the spell caster is suffering from exhaustion levels before said long rest (in addition to the normal exhaustion effects). Firstly, RAW, I don't think there is anything...

D&D 5E Mind Blank against Command

I have gone through many discussions regarding the effects of Mind Blank. Could not find a good source to establish whether it is supposed to work or not against Command. There is nothing in the Command spell description that indicates that it affects the mind. How do ppl play this at their...

D&D 5E Conundrum: Ranged attack sequence/cover bonus for players

you simply draw a line from your shooter to the target - if it passes through any friend or foe, the target gets +2 to AC... so yes, B2 gets +2 to AC bc of cover

D&D 5E Conundrum: Ranged attack sequence/cover bonus for players

they already have access to fireball!!! :ROFLMAO:💥 and yes, well, in principle they have had the same situation as the monsters, when it's the monsters' turn, they all act one after another, therefore when it's the players turn, they just act according to their Initiative, but equally, one...

D&D 5E Conundrum: Ranged attack sequence/cover bonus for players

yeah, my understanding is that RAW in 5e there is no penalty just for shooting into melee (that's probably 3.5 muscle memory), but there is a penalty if there is no clear line of sight. ie, if there is a melee happening in front of your target, the target gets partial cover (normally +2 to AC)

D&D 5E Conundrum: Ranged attack sequence/cover bonus for players

Interesting how even after 20 years of playing RPGs, new basic rule questions crop up...: So the PC group gets into a fight with a bunch of bugbears and goblins in a long 10 foot wide tunnel with corners etc, where it's more advantageous for the goblins to shoot their short bows than go melee...

    Duration/Existence of Spell-like/Supernatural Abilities in 5e?

@77IM, Thank you for the very good and exhaustive reply! Thx for clarifying some of the rules also. I think what it comes down to, and it's something @Gadget also alludes to in his point, which is well made and understood, namely that there is a fine line between DM fiat and creative...

    Duration/Existence of Spell-like/Supernatural Abilities in 5e?

So last session this happened: A stone statue in dungeon, which looked like a petrified person, was converted back via major restoration. Unfortunately, said person immediately transformed into a major demon, which let go a roar and started attacking the group. We ageed on normal initiative, as...

Use True Polymorph to re-shape stats of PC?

Jediking: Actually, don't quite follow you here: you are saying all ability scores are replaced, that WOULD include CHA... So mechanically, the idea would be to turn me into another version of me, but with more cha and less con... Or does that version need to *already exist*, in order to be...

Use True Polymorph to re-shape stats of PC?

Jediking: thank you for the thoughtful answer: - long time playing together; yes, 35 years! - one off event; yes, definitely not for cheese - side quest; yes As for the mechanics, thank you, I thought that much also, it's not made for this purpose specifically. But short of a magic item that...

Use True Polymorph to re-shape stats of PC?

Hi - lots of threads on True Polymorph, but none dealing with this specific question: The role and abilities of my PC (Moon Druid) have changed at higher levels, and it's not something I anticipated when creating the Character on level 7. Essentially, at higher levels, I find CON has become...

D&D 3E/3.5 Earth Glide - 5E vs 3.5 - How does your table play it? Esp Moon Druids?

Thanks, yeah, it is a hold over from 3.5, that said, all the elementals have their "thing" (in terms of capabilities in addition to pure direct damage output) in the right setting, the water elemental is pretty powerful in water with whelm and grapple etc, the fire elemental deals damage to...

D&D 3E/3.5 Earth Glide - 5E vs 3.5 - How does your table play it? Esp Moon Druids?

According to RAW, Earth Glide, especially for Moon Druids with ability to Wild Shape into Elementals, has been significantly nerfed due to the following limitation in 5E (which previously did not exist): "The elemental can burrow through non magical, unworked earth and stone." While the non...
