    D&D 5E 5e witches, your preferred implementation?

No. The D&D Cleric is a medium or heavily armored, anti-Undead, healing attacker.

    D&D 5E 5e witches, your preferred implementation?

I would love to see a Wicca-inspired occultist, personally. Rituals of a cleric, nature magic of a Druid, enchantment from a Bard merged together.

D&D General My Problem(s) With Halflings, and How To Create Engaging/Interesting Fantasy Races

D&D has that whole "kitchen sink" approach of tossing in a pile of races/cultures without more elaborate thought about what the implications would be of such a mix. Add in the more recent desire for slightly gonzo, post-modernist take on fantasy races (friendly, benevolent spider people who love...

D&D General Story Now, Skilled Play, and Elephants

Yeah I get that... but there are so FEW chances to use Strength saves in this game (plenty to use Athletics). Shrug.

D&D 5E And Here Is Strixhaven's Cover Art!

A magic-school setting? If that's true (especially if it is "Potter-esque") I might actually be interested! Also, if it IS centered on spellcasters attending the same school, I'd totally get Candlekeep mysteries for scholarly adventures. If it isn't? Then meh don't care.

D&D General Story Now, Skilled Play, and Elephants

I just want the designers to firm up the differences between ability checks vs. ability saves. There are several instances in the rules in which a player "resists" an effect with an ability check rather than a save, and this confuses me. Grapple, for instance. Why isn't that a Strength or...

D&D 5E Why the "Official" Rules do matter

Same here. It’s funny how it is seen as a privilege to always have personal friends to play with. I always thought it was the opposite: that people are lucky if they have the time and opportunity to play frequently with strangers.

D&D 5E Why the "Official" Rules do matter

Yeah as others have stated, even without house rules, each DM has their own style that should be transparently communicated to a new group in the campaign pitch. Then again, I’ve had players at my table who where outright STUNNED that I used the advantage and disadvantage rules outside of...

D&D 5E Why do guns do so much damage?

Yeah so I’d handle black powder weapons like so: 1. Simple weapons to reflect their ease of use by even farmers 2. Lower costs for ammo than other ranged weapons, however a powder horn is also needed (a separate piece of equipment) 3. Damage for pistols is d6, can be used as a small club for...

OSR Is there room in modern gaming for the OSR to bring in new gamers?

I actually do this in any game system, honestly. 5e included. I’m running a 1e WEG Star Wars d6 campaign and frequently handwave or make rulings. However, it IS easier to do so in this rules-light iteration of the game.

OSR Is there room in modern gaming for the OSR to bring in new gamers?

Agreed. I only like OSR game systems if “hacked” a bit. Small things like maximizing HP per level or applying ideas like “Fail Forward”, Fate points or 5e’s advantage/disadvantage. Or making zero HP “unconscious” rather than dead. You know, rules that typically offend the OSR crowd in general...

D&D 5E Why do guns do so much damage?

From what meagre things I’ve learned from history, things were a lot more complex than film and game media would have us believe. Towards the end of their “life”, longbows and crossbows were already making plate armor less useful. I think that firearms became so much more potent as a military...

D&D 5E Best out of combat class features?

Yeah pretty much: D&D is a spellcaster’s game, unless you make a bunch of new Feats... and even the new Dark Gifts duplicate spell effects. Maybe they should just re-craft the game to be spell-focused? Every class gets its own spell list, I guess. Although if that’s the way the game goes, I...

Nice, at last I could make a character based on Zatoichi!!

D&D 5E My critic on VRGtR

Ah you can bet that if I had a player interested in one of those Lineages (Hexblood or Dhampir), we’d agree to play up any thematic downsides. Luckily most of my players are aspiring authors, so this comes naturally to them. Ie, if you’re a hexblood, you have an inevitable Destiny to contend...

D&D 5E Is Treasure and Magic Items Important To You?

It's definitely the best source of comedic anecdotes on how players destroyed themselves / the campaign / the setting with LOL RANDOM effects.

D&D 5E Is Treasure and Magic Items Important To You?

Using the optional Downtime activity in Xanathar's guide for purchasing magic items has made them worthy of my consideration (as a GM). Finally the party has something to spend their money on (the equipment list is pretty sparse) but it is still limited (no "let's all buy +2 longswords this week...

    D&D 5E D&D Screen & Dungeon Kit

D&D 5E My critic on VRGtR

...It's "critique". A critic does critiques or reviews. Sorry, it just bugs me as much as rouge vs. rogue.

D&D 5E How would you make a character who uses a shield like Captain America?

For high-concept characters like Marvel Superheroes, I definitely wouldn’t start the party at level 1, that’s for sure.
