    On the topic of influential (modern) literature including Bards, or inspiring Bards, I'd have to say John Myers Myers' "Silverlock" is one of the earliest that I recall. Golias was a huge influence on my understanding of a Bard in a fantasy setting.

    This reminds me of another piece of Art influential in my love for RPGs: 'La Belle Dame sans Merci' by Frank Dicksee along with other Pre-Raphealite artists like E Blair Leightons ' The Accolade'
