Ah I love that Savage Frontier map! I would probably get one if only it was the "player's map" version with the towns and cities, and not the "DM's map" version that has the locations of all the dungeons on it. Pity...
YES!! Absolutely 100% agree.
While I love a lot of the simplifications that have been put into D&D, some of them just really bug me. Simplification is good for streamlining play, but not at the expense of vital flavor. In 2e it really mattered what weapon you chose. There were benefits and...
Somebody get Netflix and WotC to partner up on this immediately! Hell, they can even use those same actors and do it all in Portuguese. All I know is I want this, and I want it to be exactly like the commercial above (sans car).
The real benefit of 3d printing isn't in minis; it's in terrain.
Minis are still relatively cheap, and you don't need too many of them. However, a full Dwarven Forge dungeon costs well over $2000 and may not even have all the pieces you need. I print out dungeon tiles, houses, caverns, and all...
Medium sized centaurs and minotaurs just feels wrong. I do think the hybrid monster type is a neat idea, but they ought to be large. Separating them so much from their monster counterparts makes them feel like another race altogether. Like a special breed of "mini" minotaurs and centaurs. If I...

I love this idea. It made me re-subscribe to the Patreon. The idea of different languages having different effects is fantastic, and the words themselves are pretty comprehensive and cover most spell situations.
Same here! So badly! I've posted about that a couple of times, but EoM for 5e...
Hey everyone,
I just launched a Kickstarter today for my third yokai encyclopedia.
Yokai are the ghosts, spirits, and monsters of traditional Japanese folklore, some of which have inspired D&D monsters, or have directly become D&D monsters themselves.
While not strictly written as a gaming...
I haven't been able to come up with a system that would work elegantly to combine Hackmaster's countup with D&D actions. At best it complicates things too much to be worth it, at worst it nerfs players. The workarounds you'd have to come up with to deal with things like bonus actions, a...
Playing with no casters is an amazing experience! It really changes the game, and aside from speeding things up it makes it much dangerous. However I kind of prefer it to standard D&D where magic is so common there's nothing special about it anymore.
It definitely took us a few sessions to get the hang of it, but once we did, everyone in my group fell in love with it.
The only reason we went back to D&D from Hackmaster is that we wanted to play some of the newer published adventures, and the two systems don't convert easily (though they...
It definitely takes a little getting used to. It's fairly simple, but it's a big change from pretty much every other system out there, so its not easy to absorb quickly.
Once you get the flow of it, it makes combat much more exciting. However, I'm sure it's not for every group. D&D 5e's...
Haha that's for sure! You definitely had to focus.
But on the other hand, you always had something to do. It stopped my one player from leaning back and opening up tinder or some other game on his phone during long combat rounds when he had little to do.
But yeah, if you were having a brainfog...
Yep!
It works similarly in fantasy as well. You can aim and shoot with a bow, or you can rapid fire for an attack penalty.
TBH, the choices you can make in Hackmaster combat have such interesting outcomes that it dwarfs the need for the super cool class abilities you get in D&D.
I'm not sure if...
