D&D Movie/TV The D&D Movie Reviews Are Coming In

    I find myself cautiously optimistic.

    Is Resource Management “Fun?”

IMO, resource management isn't fun in and of itself, but it can lead to fun down the line - if the archer is laboriously tracking his 200 arrows then that's just work, but once he's down to his last two or three that's much more interesting. So I'd strongly advocate for keeping resource...

Pulse check on 1D&D excitement level

Meh. Let me know when it's out and I'll decide whether to buy then. Until then, I'm not particularly interested.

What can WotC do in OneD&D to make the DM's Guide worth buying?

Actually, I've just had a thought: many of the published adventures and settings to date have added various modules (the vehicle rules in Baldur's Gate, and the sailing rules in Saltmarsh come to mind). If WotC were to gather all of these together into their new DMG, that would make it a...

Warner Bros wants to make Lord of the Rings films. Not remakes, fyi.

The problem is that Middle Earth is so foundational to modern fantasy that any story set there that isn't directly derived from Tolkien's words is basically just "fantasy lands of generica" again. And we've had at least three series of that in the last 12 months: Rings of Power, Wheel of Time...

D&D Movie/TV Do you think the D&D Movie will be good?

I try hard to expect as little as possible from films. So, no. But I'm now planning to see it anyway - six weeks ago that answer would have been different.

Warner Bros wants to make Lord of the Rings films. Not remakes, fyi.

If they can get the rights to Tolkien's other writings, especially his "great tales" (Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien, the Fall of Gondolin), there are some good movies to be made. If they can't, and they're stuck respinning the same 50 pages of the LotR appendices endlessly, then it would...

D&D 5E Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

IMO, problematic content is acceptable even if it isn't presented as obviously and explicitly evil and meant to be fought. Just label it appropriately (and, in movies and games, give it the appropriate certificate level). "He Man" and "Game of Thrones" are both valid expressions of fantasy.

D&D 5E How I'd rewrite Dark Sun... what changes would you make?

If I were rewriting Dark Sun I... well, I wouldn't. I'd try to start fresh and create a new setting with similar themes and motifs, but very deliberately not Athas and all that it implies. That said, I'd also be tempted to publish it more or less as-is, but as part of a "mature themes" subline...

D&D 5E WotC: Why Dark Sun Hasn't Been Revived

Because it's the hope that kills you. :)

D&D 5E WotC: Why Dark Sun Hasn't Been Revived

Sadly, after the mess they made of Ravenloft and Spelljammer, I'm somewhat relieved to hear this. Dark Sun was the last of the classic settings I was interested in, but I didn't hold out much hope it would be good. It would be nice to see it opened on the Guild, though - they're already selling...

D&D General PETITION: Acknowledge Hasbro's hurtful content (Black orcs, Asian yellow orcs, Native American red orcs)—through an Amendatory Bundle [+ thread]

I'm afraid I'm going to join the majority voice here - I can't support the petition as it stands. If GAZ10 is so bad that it simply cannot be allowed to stand, it should be removed from sale.

What's the WORST Star Wars movie?

Attack of the Clones. I pretty much hated "The Last Jedi", but I must give it some credit for at least trying something new. Unfortunately, it failed spectacularly, leaving a massive mess for "Rise of Skywalker" to clean up. And while tRoS likewise sucked, it was about as good as it was...

    Picard Season 3

I thought it was good, and a distinct improvement over the previous two seasons. But... the first episode of season two was also received with glowing reviews and comments on being a vast improvement, and then fell off a cliff fast. So will this season do better?

    Picard Season 3

Presumably the 5 years is less for getting there, and more for looking around once you have?

D&D General Are You Ready For A "New" D&D?

For OneD&D, I'm happy with them tweaking the existing game, but I'd also be happy with a true 6e. And, honestly, I'd be happy with them not doing it at all. It's all good. For D&D-like games... actually, I don't want a D&D-like game. I've come to the conclusion that there are some elements of...

D&D 5E Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes or Monsters of the Multiverse if I don't care about new PC races?

It's possibly worth noting that the lore that's missing from MotM is stuff that has largely been deprecated by WotC - that's one the reasons they've reissued the monsters in the new books. (That's a bit less true of "Tome of Foes" than "Volo's Guide", but only a bit less.) So if you have an...

D&D 5E Which of these possible endings do you prefer to see in every published adventure *as written*?

I prefer to see at least two (preferably three) endings explored: What happens if the PCs succeed? What happens if the PCs fail (but survive)? And perhaps a third giving a variant of one of the other two (a disastrous fail, or an alternate success) I don't particularly care whether those are...
