WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

As a few noted, this does not cover ONE DND. I fully expect a separate usage license for it. I wonder if they think the immense player base will shift to it and leave 5e behind relatively swiftly. There's more to this than just ending the fight over the OGL.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

You all can keep believing the fantasy all you want, but in the end it will not be compatible with 5e. It may say it, but it will be like trying to convert from Pathfinder 1e to Pathfinder 2e.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

This also means that ONE DND will NOT be compatible with 5e.

OGL v1.2 Survey Feedback: 'Hasn't Hit The Mark'

It is all about the money. WotC executives want to force as many people as possible into purchasing the new ONE DND in a relatively short time. They probably have contracts that give them large bonuses for hitting certain benchmarks. Thus, killing off the OGL and replacing it with one that...

Over 1,500 Publishers Support Paizo's Upcoming Open RPG Creator's License

It is all about content creation for ONE DND. WotC desperately needs 3PP to do that for them. Otherwise, WotC has to bear the costs of doing it and that then increases the risk of either losing money outright or not getting a larger return. By ending the older OGL, they would be forcing all 3PP...

Paizo News: Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Hits One Million Copies Sold

What it shows is that companies with the goal of creating entertaining products that players will purchase can and will produce profitable products. Wrath of the Righteous is a good product and does a good job of showcasing the Adventure Path for Pathfinder First Edition. I hope they have an...

We will not go gently into that good night. Hell no! If we're going out, we're going out with all guns blazing. Cue AC/DC: If You Want Blood...You've Got It!

OGL: What Are The Publishers Saying [UPDATED]

There's evidence that fantasy gaming existed before D&D and Chainmail for that matter. As noted, various authors have been borrowed from liberally by the content creators over the years via concepts such as Vancian magic. Plus, there's a lot of RPGs that are not D&D and have distinctive game...

OGL: What Are The Publishers Saying [UPDATED]

Not a problem. I like pointing out how Hasbro is cutting their throats with this stupid decision and that it will cost them far more than they stand to make by continuing the status quo.

OGL: What Are The Publishers Saying [UPDATED]

I disagree. There are enough parties who could band together and pool their resources to fight this. Not to mention legal experts willing to donate their time. Hasbro may be big, but there are several companies who make millions in this industry and they do have the weight to fight back. But...

WotC WotC Cancels 5 Video Games

    What reference would that be?

WotC WotC Cancels 5 Video Games

How will the movie connect to D&D? What recognizable elements of the fantasy TTRPG are going to be in the movie? The first D&D movie was a flop for multiple reasons. It had next to no connections to D&D. Any one of numerous fantasy movies in the 70s, 80, or 90s could have been labelled a D&D...

WotC WotC Cancels 5 Video Games

This makes me suspect they are not so enamored with the upcoming release of the D&D movie.

WotC Announces OGL 1.1 -- Revised Terms, Royalties, and Annual Revenue Reporting

Good thing I play Pathfinder 2e. I don't give a rat's behind what WotC does to screw up their game because Paizo is not going to be using their new OGL. In fact, I think Paizo might very well market more of its Pathfinder 2e products to the 5e community and cash in. Plus I have news for...

D&D General The First Map of the Forgotten Realms

Great story! I am glad to know the map was preserved and is displayed properly. It is an important piece of our history.

Dragonlance Dragonlance: Solamnic Knights & Mages of High Sorcery Preview

It would be cool to use the setting with PF2e rules. The orders could be archetypes. Several feats could be reflavored or new ones added.

D&D General Ed Greenwood's $5K Contract To Sell The Forgotten Realms

I absolutely loved FR when I got that 1e boxed set. My only regret was that I lived in the middle of nowhere and had no one who wanted to play D&D at all. When I eventually found the 4e version of FR, I was really disappointed. Hopefully they will put out a new version of FR for their 50th...

TSR Wizards of the Coast Requests Injunction Against NuTSR

I think LaNasa and his grifter mentality are about to encounter a reality he is not capable of imagining due to his lack of intelligence. As others have pointed out, he thinks there is a majority of people who think like him out there. Instead, there is a small minority of very loud people like...

    Returning to Gen Con

I really wanted to go to Gen Con this year, but several factors combined to prevent my trip. My wife's health went really bad on the first day of Gen Con causing me to back out of six tables I was going to run for Gen Con Online. Had I been in Indianapolis, I would have had to return, but the...
