D&D General What About Those Other D&D Settings?

Although I love the Points of Light / Nentir Vale setting, calling it new is a bit of a stretch. In 2024 it'll have been 16 years since the introduction of Nentir Vale. It's a bit like calling Dragonlance a new setting during the launch of 3e D&D! I want something brand new. Something with its...

D&D 5E Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

I voted no even though the topic is more nuanced. The question as presented is very simple though, assuming it's just a blanket statement on problematic content. Is it okay to include sexual abuse and the sexual abuse of children if it's presented as evil and something to be fought? Is it okay...

D&D General PETITION: Acknowledge Hasbro's hurtful content (Black orcs, Asian yellow orcs, Native American red orcs)—through an Amendatory Bundle [+ thread]

I understood “rewriting” as replacing and something at least adjacent to censoring if the motivation is to remove undesirable elements. Do you mean that every addition or retcon is rewriting? Isn’t that an extreme understanding of rewriting? Following your logic further, the Sword Coast...

D&D General PETITION: Acknowledge Hasbro's hurtful content (Black orcs, Asian yellow orcs, Native American red orcs)—through an Amendatory Bundle [+ thread]

I don't personally see it as a rewrite. If a Forgotten Realms book includes a chapter detailing Rashemen, then later D&D Beyond publishes an article about Thay in which the neighboring Rashemen is painted as a backwater hellhole, that to me is just additional content. By your logic the D&D...

D&D General PETITION: Acknowledge Hasbro's hurtful content (Black orcs, Asian yellow orcs, Native American red orcs)—through an Amendatory Bundle [+ thread]

I understood it to be additional text, like an extra chapter that portrays the land and the people from a different perspective. I don't think it's supposed to remove any existing text, so it wouldn't really be a rewrite where you take out portions of the text and rewrite them.

Project Black Flag Design Notes #1

"We don't think One D&D will be as backwards compatible as promised because they're changing 5e. Anyway, here are changes to 5e."

WotC Hasbro's CEO Reports OGL-Related D&D Beyond Cancellations Had Minimal Impact

I believe it was an attempt to protect their IP and brand instead of a clause that would've allowed them to crush competition. They don't have major competition in the tabletop RPG market because 5e is so big compared to everything else. But the stringent protection clauses make sense if you...

WotC Hasbro's CEO Reports OGL-Related D&D Beyond Cancellations Had Minimal Impact

I'm not convinced that WotC wanted to shut down 3PP publishers (and/or Paizo and others) in order to take over the tabletop RPG market. They already took over it a few years ago. 5e is a behemoth. To me it looks like the suits at Hasbro/WotC are more concerned about video games and movies and TV...

D&D 5E Online RPG Tools Platform Demiplane Announces '5E Nexus'

The Pathfinder 2e Nexus has been in development for years and just recently they launched the alpha of their character sheet tools. It arrived about a year late. The rest of the PF2 tools are also lagging and still missing promised features. I ran a full year-long campaign and they didn't add a...

D&D General Who Invents Spells, and How Old Are They

I think this is the most coherent approach. If we assume that the spells we have in the PHB and other products are specific creations (or maybe given by gods or nature spirits), then what about monsters' innate spells that are identical? If shatter is actually Mordenkainen's shatter, what about...

Pathfinder 2E Is it fun to play a caster in PF2?

There's some truth to it. Casters can also pull off amazing battlefield control tricks, but they do kinda shine when they boost the martials. You will never compete at single target damage as a caster.

    A Dragonlance Retrospective: Part 2

I'm likely to run a War of the Lance inspired Dragolance game in the near future, and I've been thinking about how the setting works in 5e. Back when they were current releases, I was a big fan of the 3.5 Dragonlance product line and how they figured out a way to marry all the different...

    Pathfinder 2E My Pathfinder 2e Post-Mortem

3-action economy & the GM My issue here is limited to encounters with mooks, meaning encounters with a large number of weak enemies. If you as the GM control 7 weak mook enemies, they all require 3 actions to resolve. Yes, often it can be a Stride and two Strikes, etc., but you will often also...

    Pathfinder 2E My Pathfinder 2e Post-Mortem

Having recently finished a year-long 1-10 PF2 game I wanted to write down a few thoughts on the game. TL; DR: PF2 has a great foundation that's weighed down by most everything else around the core system. The game could use a revision. This is all coming from the perspective of a GM. I have...

D&D General Do you want a 3D vtt?

Yes, but I also want the VTT to support 2d maps and assets. 3d environments for big marquee encounters but 2d for the rest. And I want the 3d maps to support 2d tokens where it's just a picture of a creature on a token base.

One D&D Permanently Removes The Term 'Race'

They should just use ancestry. Yeah, Pathfinder has it. So what? Ancestry fits fantasy a little better than species. We can give them feedback, the term isn’t set in stone yet.

Dragonlance Dragonlance Adventure & Prelude Details Revealed

The new adventure does kind of give a reason why the gods of good accepted or tolerated the Cataclysm. Apparently the good gods in Dragonlance are not focused on defeating and destroying evil. Instead their main goal is to preserve the free will of mortals. The evil gods want to rule over...

Dragonlance Shadow of the Dragon Queen AMA

If there are any I haven’t noticed. The book says that draconians are magical creatures that basically lack free will, being creations of Takhisis who as an evil god wants to rule over mortals. “They aren’t creatures with their own goals and ambitions. Rather, they are magical manifestations...
