Weapon exemptions for clerics was RAW as early as AD&D 2e. That's not the important part. Weapon damage based on the character class rather than on the weapon itself is the revolutionary idea.

I find this campaign a little confusing. In the title they call it 6th ed, but the description says it's an "updated" version of 1st ed. Updated how, exactly? That's never explained.
