The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

As my android was updating its UI to 6.0 I saw that they were calling it One UI. 🤦‍♂️ It was almost enough to make me give up the One D&D vs. 5.5e fight. Almost. 😜

Potentially future rule. It's not RAW until AFTER it's released as a rule. I personally think it's foolishness, but all it does is underscore that magic is a separate language that you need "read magic" to understand. 5e is using identify because read magic doesn't exist like it did for 1e, 2e...

So nowhere. Until it hits the core books, and it may never make it because that's how playtests work, it's not a rule of any sort.

How is pineapple pizza difficult? Make a pizza, then ruin it by dumping pineapple on it. Easy peasy!

I think you're on to something there. Then the folk @payn mentioned who are negative can also call it R5E(Regressive 5th Edition) and no matter where you are, it's R5E! ;)

I think that there are more than two camps. I like many of the changes(ie positive), but still call it 5.5e, because the changes are very substantial. A lot of us don't fall into the two camps you lay out there. I'll also bet that there are a good number of folks out there who are negative and...

Worlds of Design: Reassessing Tolkien’s Influence

For me it comes down to this. Guns and gunpowder feel like tech, while magic, swords and armor do not. It doesn't matter to me if guns predate plate armor, because I'm not trying to model real life. What I want out of a fantasy game is swords and sorcery, not swords and sorcery and tech. I...

They could be seen as rules if they were rules. The difference between a rule and a guideline is the strength of the statement. The DMG calls out the other two books as guidelines in order to weaken strength of the statements.

No it doesn't. It says it needs a bit of deciphering like I just posted. Can you figure out without deciphering which 3 syllables triggered the magic? I'm bettering no. Where? "Copying a Spell into the Book. When you find a wizard spell of 1st level or higher, you can add it to your spell...

Yes they can. It just takes some work like in my examples upthread. Fheethylamine Gharim Chooselaka Meera. Only three sounds in there trigger the magic of a sleep spell. Without needing to decipher, which three are they?

No. The weave. The weave requires specific sounds to access specific kinds of magic. The weave doesn't care if you speak elvish, dwarvish or conehead. Prove it. Prove that the PHB RAW is wrong.

Then it's a shared language in D&D. Real life languages don't matter. In D&D the mystic syllables are instantly recognizable per RAW. Otherwise counterspells and other spells fail to work.

This is a house rule on verbals. Not in D&D. D&D spellcasting requires specific sounds to trigger the specific magics, not any sound as you claim. You are literally claiming that RAW says the opposite of what it says.

But irrelevant to the language using it. Call it a language or not, it's still usable by anyone of any language. Yes there is, because it's the same in all languages. This is D&D fact. It may not be real world fact, but it is D&D fact or else casters could not recognize spellcasting...

But not ones specific to a given spell. Any sound =/= specific sound and you are arguing that the caster can literally use any sound of any pitch he wants to cast his "personal" spell. That's not RAW.

No I'm not. I'm describing the language using a normal word for that language, but which includes the mystic syllable, which along with the other syllables and perhaps the other two components, trigger magic. The sentence could be, "The button is loose." with the mystic syllables being "he,"...
