D&D General Industry Veteran Jennell Jaquays Passes

Sadness. I grew up with Jennell's art on my walls, and later in life became a friend of her daughter, who lives near me. Somewhere, I have pictures of me strapping her daughter into my own armour. I even had some fun conversations with Jennell about gaming over the years.

D&D (2024) Firearms to be made a fixed part of the game, new Weapons Rules

Cool. Now please do the same with armour.

D&D General My "Perfect D&D" Would Include...

Weapon vs. Armor Type modifiers. Or Armor vs. Damage Type. Whichever. I loved that. Anything that makes combat more realistic and less cinematic by default. I'd also like to see a return to fewer spells for low-level spellcasters. Maybe fewer spells in general. I'm tired of every Player's...

Level Up (A5E) Did I miss the Equipment Playtest document somehow?

I had been hoping at some point to see what changes were made to the lists of weapons and armour that were going to be presented in this game.

Level Up (A5E) Adding narrative satisfaction to armor

I support any change to the basic rules of The Game that represent armour as being more effective than it presently is. It should be more rewarding to wear armour, especially heavy armour. Nothing is more frustrating than your knight in shining armour character wearing his gear and always...

Level Up (A5E) Magic Item Price List

This list hints at a very different armour list than the one that presently exists in the basic PHB. It makes me want to see the nonmagical equipment chapter even more. Any chance of a preview on that?

Level Up (A5E) What would you like to see next?

This still has me super excited and I'm dying to see what it's going to look like.

D&D 5E D&D Should Have Less HP Bloat

Total agreement. I'd prefer a D&D in which hit points were generally lower across the board, with attack bonuses lowered as well. Or ACs raised--I just want armour represented as being more effective than most editions of the game rules depict.

    D&D 5E D&D Needs "Weirder"/More Unique Races

I get that new, weird, unique lineages appeal to some people, but it's not for me. I'd rather be given more of what I already know I like than see space and effort given to untried, off-the-wall stuff that I can't relate to. Without a firm focus on those core cultures, it stops feeling like...

    D&D 5E Spellcasters vs. Warriors

Why couldn't each weapon or armour be represented as encapsulating its own idea or meaningful power increase? Why can't my sword's basket hilt or edges be represented as providing a some sort of in-game bonus on par with a spell? Why must cool, interesting features restricted to spells? In...

D&D General What elements should D&D keep? forums vs. Reddit

I'm bothered to see that keeping lists of specific spells proved more popular than keeping lists of specific equipment. It seems that some people seem to like the idea of radically simplifying the weapons and armour lists, sometimes even to the point of including only categories of...

D&D General D&D's feel - forums vs. Reddit

Apologies. Duplicate post in wrong thread.

    D&D 5E Spellcasters vs. Warriors

I note in some discussions these days that some people seem to like the idea of radically simplifying the weapons and armour lists, sometimes even to the point of including only categories of light/medium/heavy armour and using these as catch-alls for all armour types. And we've certainly seen...

D&D 5E What Single Thing Would You Eliminate

If I could eliminate just one thing, it'd definitely be the "Heat Metal" spell. Too overpowered. Blecch!

D&D General My Low Fantasy homebrew mods to 5th Edition

The idea is that creatures would hit less often, as their attack bonuses are reduced, and the use of the "Damage Type vs. Armour Type" chart usually results in a small increase for the AC. So, less frequent hits that are somewhat more lethal due to lower HP and longer recovery times. I admit...

D&D General My Low Fantasy homebrew mods to 5th Edition

Like another recent poster here, I like the feel of good old 1st edition AD&D, but I also like some of the design features that 5th edition brought. Additionally, like my games to have a much more "Low Fantasy" feel to them, instead of the "TippyVerse" assumptions that out-of-the-box 5th...

    D&D 5E D&D needs more armors

I upvoted this at first, but then read more carefully. You aren't wanting to add more real-world armours; you're wanting crazy fantasy stuff, and I can't get behind that. There's no point in adding off-the-wall fantasy armours when the game still can't get real-world stuff right, IMO.

    Level Up (A5E) Armor

I note that the armor in the starting equipment section in the recent Herald playtest document is very different from that in the Fighter playtest document. "Mail Hauberk" and "Mail chain shirt" in the Herald vs. "chain mail" and "leather armour" in the Fighter. Has some evolution in the...
