Pathfinder 1E Are there compelling reasons to upgrade to PF1 from 3.0?

Keep to 3.0e. Pathfinder 1E is derisively known as Mathfinder because it exacerbates the bonus bunkum that began after 3.0e core. That alone should disqualify it.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Monster Core

There are four bestiaries? I'm assuming the NPC listings in the GMG are considered to be the fourth?

    D&D 3E/3.5 Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

Pretty much. I've tried all matter of methods but anything short of "knock it off" from the DM is not going to work for policing character makeups that are too strong for the campaign at hand.

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

So basically you're right because you're holding yourself to a different standard. Understood. We're done here.

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

So I can't disagree? I have to be wrong because you experienced otherwise? I could parrot your very own words back at you. I could point out that the actual 3e playtest didn't really cover those levels and Living Greyhawk feedback really didn't improve that range with 3.5e either. I could...

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

I DMed and played in several dozen campaigns that reached those levels too and I disagree. Yes, most adventures had to changed but if that was the only problem then more people would run high-level games and it's very clear that that's not the only problem.

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

Scholomance argued that the digital scrutiny was a major contributor. I disagree though. Character optimization was always a thing but, past a certain point, it was communally derided. That character optimization became not only acceptable but enshrined is a communal issue, technology being...

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

The poor save progressions largely impact monsters and NPCs. If anything, monsters should have good saves (and possibly good BAB) to offset their relatively lack of features.

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

A +4 stat item around 8th to 10th level is absurd. That's 33% of a character's expected WBL at 10th level and for 8th/9th level, it's even worse. While it is affordable and characters played from 1st level end up with a fair amount of wealth over the WBL, it isn't an necessity and you'd probably...

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

An interesting idea. I imagine a campaign where a ring of protection just grants bonuses similar to AD&D (potentially a 5 ft. radius and/or a resistance bonus in addition to a deflection bonus) or a belt of giant's strength just grants the strength of an appropriate giant would be more...

There are still players want to use everything unfortunately.

More and more, not only do I think you should keep the penalties but given how much time is downplayed in 3.X campaigns, I think a DM should institute more stringent training times for multiclassing and then wisely put a time pressure ala RHoD and Dragons of Autumn.

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

The higher levels (13-20) weren't really playable space. Gary Gygax is oft-quoted as saying that 16th level in 1e is the practical maximum and beyond that, you're on your own and having ran multiple campaigns at those levels in 3E as a GM, while the designers and freelancers might have tried...

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

The problem with a Tippyverse campaign is that it's like a Nyambe campaign. Sounds fun, no one genuinely wants to play it for long.

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

Agree that it didn't work it at all. It set so many bad expectations that just chucking it led to a more harmonious game. As for the post-10th level tedium, a lot of that has to do with tolerating bad behavior. I used to have a lot of house rules to help certain players pre-calculate stuff so...

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

I think one of the better innovations to come out of The Gaming Den was the feat per level where they largely removed all of the feat prerequisites, condensed some things, and you got... a feat per character level. I believe a similar idea could be applied with Prestige Classes where you just...

D&D 3E/3.5 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

This was a bit of a toughie. Based on my more unpleasant experiences with 3e and inferring from what I saw as a GM, 3e seems to be good for: 1. "Kill largely non-threatening monsters for XP and loot." You can entertain players in any and all configurations by creating a verifiable stage of...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Retro-cloning D&D 3.0

I thought about this in a fashion. HD would be equal to CR but all racial HDs would have Good BAB and Saves (I haven't made a decision about HD size but I still think d6s were too low) but I imagine using some benchmarks of hp, attack bonus, and damage by CR is infinitely better (faster) than...
