Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

People (as far as I can tell) default to looking at the world as a zero-sum game. If one thing gains, then it must be at our expense. It is why the wargaming grognards back in the seventies denigrated D&D because if all these people are playing D&D they are leaving their hobby. Whereas in fact...

Are they really not distributing to the big box stores? or are they using a distributor that does not report to Bookscan?

    D&D (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

I personally think that is only part of what they mean by "undermonetised". I think that they are also looking at things like the success of Baldur's Gate and thinking that they could leverage D&D brand recognition in other areas like video games and other formats like movies and tv.

    D&D (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

I think it is useful, when posting a link to a video to include some text as to what point the video is supporting or reporting on. It is not like we all have time to watch the video when reading a thread.

Who is older than me? Who is younger than me?

Older by a year and a couple of months and change.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

The total population in absolute poverty seems to have fallen substantially over the last 30 years or so. Interestingly this graph seems to indicate a rise on absolute poverty in Africa over the last 15 years or so and this UN report seems to indicate that child labour number have increased in...

    D&D (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

I would really love for WoTC to lean into more development in cultures, species and backgrounds in future setting books. Give a selection of traits for culture, and species. Use it to build out hybrids and expand on backgrounds. Take something like the lifepath builder in Xanathar's and show it...

magic the gathering Netflix series taps Terry Matalas as new showrunner

"revenant to D&D movie ", I am now considering the ending of the movie and the red wizard succeeded. The Sword Coast is now populated by the undead.

D&D (2024) 2024 D&D: now available for the rest of us

Some people seem to want to use the rules as a stick rather than a guidepost.

    D&D (2024) Backgrounds

I would love to be able to use the life path generator from Xanathars (I think) and have it produce a valid background.

Yes, everything is this post is true and nothing posted here is going to make a damn piece of difference. If you want to effect chance you have go out among your neighbours and start there. All politics is local.

China and Japan to some extent. The Chinese never really developed a pike and shot army for a number of reasons as far as I can figure out. (not an expert here or even all that well read on it, so take my take for what it worth). One, was that Chinese imperial politics was pretty brutal and...

D&D (2024) 2024 D&D: now available for the rest of us

Not really, I have just been mucking about in the character builder. Now I have not been trying to make hybrid characters, but I have mixed and matched legacy backgrounds with 2024 classes, species and the like and all the legacy stuff is there and can be dragged to the character sheet. I do...

D&D (2024) 2024 D&D: now available for the rest of us

It is possible, at least on FantasyGrounds, if you really want to. Use at your own risk, there is some potential for synergies that may not be acceptable at some table. Edit: to be honest, I think you could make a mash up on D&DBeyond, though you may have to do some faffing about with the...

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

I think you need to ask "what were those children doing before they became 'our' child labour?" and it was not, not labouring. That is not to say that we should not call out companies that benefit from child labour and help increase worker protection and environmental standards worldwide. If...

D&D (2024) DMs what do you think of the new PHB?

I think I will chime in again, I have posted in this thread before some positive views on the new PHB and while I have not had the chance to play with the new rules yet (an do not expect to soon) I have had a chance to build a few characters. Both new characters and conversions of existing...

D&D (2024) DMs what do you think of the new PHB?

Wearing my DM hat, Overall, I like it, I think that the classes raise the floor over 2014 but not the ceiling but I have not had the opportunity to see it in play yet. So, to an extent I have to reserve judgement on that. It is cleaner and clearer to read, though I only have the D&DBeyond...

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Talks AI Usage in D&D [UPDATED!]

Enough people to keep this going for 23 pages. There is a strong case to be made that nothing he is reported to have said warrants this kind of attention but then a substantial chunk of the thread is a rehash of the ethics of AI.

Probably be better to let MS or someone else do the legwork and licence out the tech then.
