    D&D 5E I'm so excited (and I just can't hide it)

Me too me too! I am buying the starter set for my seven year old son and my brother is going to DM with my wife and I as supportive characters. We're hoping the game helps the little guy with his confidence. Then in August I'm starting a game of Tyranny of Dragons for my regular group. I'm on...

D&D 5E Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

I'm a fan of LG paladin. I'm from the older editions where the reward for playing to the strict LG code was the abilities of the paladin. This edition I'm sure was created with balance in mind, so the advantage given to the paladin isn't really a thing anymore. That said, I understand why they...

    D&D 5E Live Dungeons & Dragons Q&A Friday, June 6 Question Thread

How much high level play testing and number tweaking was done? Will the DMG have any suggestions on how to challenge high level characters?

    D&D 5E 5e Tieflings and Dragonborn

In my campaign, tieflings are from Planescape only and dragonborn don't exist. I've never been particular to "beast" races, myself.

The purple worm, how have you dealt with / used it?

I used a purple worm in an Underdark adventure once. The players were swarmed by duergar, and at first the characters tried to play it cool, saying they were friendly. The duergar took out their blasting horns and summoned forth a giant purple worm that was probably colossal++++. So the players...

    suggestions needed for a character

My first character ever was a dwarf fighter in 2e. I still name all my CRPG characters after him. I went dual-wielding, but what I would do if I could go back is to take weapon specialization for a two hander like a great axe. You'll get second attacks much faster than anyone else. Put your...

    D&D 5E Upcoming OGL-Related Announcement!

I'm eager to hear what is announced, as I would love to publish adventures under 5th edition rules. As for my opinion of what they should decide, I have none. The way I see it, it's all theirs; the license, the brand, the rules, and they are entitled to do whatever they want with it. Whether...

    D&D 5E Buying Adventures

I only bought my first adventure, a third party megadungeon, just the other week. I've been playing since late 2E. After DMing a massive 1-20 campaign over several years, most of it made from scratch using established settings, I came to the conclusion that that is a LOT of work. And I don't...

D&D 5E Can an elf rogue be a decent archer in (Basic) D&D 5th edition?

I concur with the other posters. Due to the vague nature of what constitutes "advantage" a player can do a number of things that allow him to have it, per the DM, letting him add sneak attack damage. Since they can hide as part of their cunning ability, that's an easy enough excuse for me.

Now that 5E is imminent, what are your D&D plans?

I'm running a Pathfinder megadungeon at the moment and planning on switching to 5th edition as soon as the three core books are released. Earlier if I get bored of our current game. My players are pretty chill and will play most anything I put in front of them. We've gone from PF to original...

Pathfinder 1E Taking 20 with Sleight of Hand

The +2 was from the bonus daggers get to hide as described in the skill. Primarily I used the skill to hide something like a key or dagger or the like on myself in case my character was captured and searched.

Pathfinder 1E Taking 20 with Sleight of Hand

Is it possible to take a 20 with the sleight of hand skill to hide a small object like a dagger on your person, assuming you're not observed and have the time? If so, would the DC to find the object be 20? Or 20+2 (assuming the dagger's bonus)? Or 20+2+SoH skill? And if not possible, why not...

D&D 1E Just got done running some 1e

I ran a very fun game of 1st edition White Plume Mountain back in March as a tribute to D&D's 40th anniversary. We had never played but went in expecting all sorts of crazy rules and shenanigans, so no one was particularly surprised or upset by anything. We had to gloss over some combat as it...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

So this thread is definitely TLDR for me, but simply responding to the initial post; I feel that D&D and it's ilk easily support and improve the game experience when the game is conducted in the manner originally conceived. Ok, so obviously I'm talking pure opinion here cause I have no idea...

Pathfinder 1E Advice Needed: Best way to work with Power Gamers?

I've really only dealt with one or two hardcore power gamers in my time as a DM. Like others, I handled them with some restrictions, but I realize that since that's their preferred method of play, telling them to stop will only reduce their enjoyment of the game, which is never ideal (and...

    D&D 5E Art in 5e...?

I joined the site just to respond to this forum. I personally love Jeff Easley's old school style. Over the top and heroic, yet still grounded in the Clark Ashton Smith-style pulp fiction that D&D is based on. I'd like to see more of that type of look in 5th edition, though I doubt they'll do...
