    The Cosmology of Eberron

Oh, and I'm definately keeping the City of Brass on Fernia - a city that goes on and on for hundreds of miles (but not where the Magma Dragons have their lairs). And Superman definately has his Fortress of Solitude on Risia :p Mac Callum

    The Cosmology of Eberron

At one time Elysium & Arcadia were arbitrary names too. People got used to them. Now they're "standard" and the new names are arbitrary. Hmmm ... there may be a mental process at work here ... I like the orbital nature of the Planes. For those who want to do Calendar by DM fiat, that's...

My party gives away magical items

That's the strangest thing I've ever heard. Man, they must have quite a devoted network of allies by now... But to answer your question, No. I have had a group give a potion in a time of need, but nothing like a Ring of Protection +5

Books for XP? Tired of stingy players

Whatever works for you man. It certainly isn't fair that, ceteris paribus, only one person is buying all the books. Or maybe a simpler rule - if your PCs want a feat, PrC, race for their characters, they buy the book it's in. That way they get something every time they play the character, not...

Why are you looking forward (or not looking forward) to Eberron?

Where is the extra stuff from Keith Baker? Is it in Dragon only? I have only seen the 2-3 things the WotC page has, and it's not impressive (not to mention their formatting - is a 12 year old in charge of that?). Mac Callum

What's the object of the game?

The purpose of D&D is to have fun, but the purpose of the XP/CR/THAC0 rules is to provide structure, and to manage expectations. D&D is like any other game. Take baseball. We play baseball because it's fun, but that doesn't mean we play without rules. Otherwise it would easier to get home by...

    Running Dwarves

From the SRD quote I would say only the base speed is unaffected by armor & encumbrance. Lots of torque, not much speed. Mac Callum

    Classic Campaign Starts?

Just started a new solo-campaign last night that went well. Player is a H-Elf Ranger. She starts on the borders of the town of Verge with her Ranger-Mentor (he's on the Border Watch). She only had a couple minutes to talk to him about the area (He phrased his answer as if he were teaching...

What is 3.0 & 3.5 missing that previous editions had?

Indeed. What sense of accomplishment is there when there was no danger to begin with? Even in a game, it matters. Mac Callum

Adding Flavor to 3e- Your Methods, Solutions, Philosophies

I don't change the rules. There are so many templates, spell effects and PrC's that I don't need to. There's always something I can use to do what I want to do. That being said, Templates, spell effects and PrC's are not flavor - they're rules. To add flavor you use things that have little/...

What is 3.0 & 3.5 missing that previous editions had?

Remathilis - I just meant that the Iconics present one version of the Fighter, Monk, etc. while the lack of Iconics earlier provided you with more examples. I also got more inspiration from them, because they weren't just another portrait of Lidda. Urbannen - Excellent point. D&D today does...

What is 3.0 & 3.5 missing that previous editions had?

I think what Monte Cook has coined "the implied setting" of D&D has become more dilute. The D&D-isms (like racial level limits) had to change from setting to setting, so that Dark Sun elves and dwarves were very different creatures than the ones of Ravenloft, Krynn or the Players Handbook...

    Druids and Metal

You're right, there's no Proficiency related to them - but I don't see how that's relevant. Druids do have the Armor Feats to wear metal armors after all; it's the oath that stops them. And Druids & Monks do not wear armor for entirely different reasons. They aren't useful for comparison. It...

Have you ever killed a player by mistake?

Sure, once or twice. Give me a break, I was in highschool. The only "really bad" PC killing though was once in conspiracy with one of my players. All the other players had really gotten on our nerves (don't ask me how - I don't really remember now. Something to do with being cocky...

    Druids and Metal

That's a rather overly-technical, cavalier attitude to take with a sacred Oath. They are Bracers of Armor after all. Here's a quick test: Imagine explaining that one to your Druid mentor. Think he's buy it? I wouldn't. Mac Callum PS - IMC Druids can wear torcs, bracers & belts if they...
