Games Workshop And Cubicle 7 Announce Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play 4th Edition

"Our team have a huge breadth of experience with Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and I’m excited to be able to bring the Cubicle 7 approach to the Old World" This means the OLD world, not the Age of Sigmar world, right? It damn well better, anyway.

D&D 5E Wandering Monsters- playable monsters

The implication behind the questions is that if I don't think monster PCs are always and everywhere a bad idea ("monsters are for slaying, not for playing"), I should want rules for monster PCs in the game. I think this implication is dumb. Sometimes the best way to handle rules for something...

    D&D 5E D&D Next Blog - The Fighter

I just want them to keep something like the slayer/weaponmaster distinction of late 4e. This also seems to be what they're going to do. The default fighter's basically the slayer. Every fighter has the same set of abilities, which mainly consist in universal attack and damage bonuses, and is...

D&D 5E D&D Next Blog - Wizards Like to Roll Dice Too

There's room for variation. It would be fun, and thematic, but maybe not D&D-ish enough, if spellcasters had to make spellcasting checks to successfully cast spells. Higher-level spells could have higher DC's, so spellcasters would have interesting tactical choices. ("Do I cast magic missile...

Pathfinder 1E E6 Pathfinder: this MUST have been done

Is there a canonical discussion/site somewhere? I'm curious, and out of the loop.

How Can You Politely Say, "Your Character Sucks?"

This is such a weird discussion! Some people seem to be saying that there are right or wrong ways to build a character that hold absolutely; others that it's all a matter of arbitrary preference, and that you're intruding on someone's magic personal space if you say anything about it. Nobody has...

Stance Duration (brain fart at work)

Oh, it's in the core books! The stormwarden gets an encounter stance (+2 attack for -2 AC) as an encounter power.

What Would Happen If (Almost) Nobody Paid for RPGs?

You're absolutely right--if most RPGs were free, almost nobody could afford to work on them full time. That's pretty much a given, I think. That's not the question I'm asking, though. What I want to ask is: could there be good, established, accessible RPGs if everybody who worked on them...

    Why DON'T you pirate?

That's definitely an interesting perspective! I think the central philosophical question here is whether using someone's property, per se, imposes substantial obligations to them, above and beyond whatever obligations are imposed by the consequences of your use. (For example, which is the more...

What Would Happen If (Almost) Nobody Paid for RPGs?

Since we're all talking and thinking about piracy a lot right now, I'd like to see what people think about a question I've had for a while. Suppose that, over time--within five or ten years, say--most RPG developers came to believe that the RPG industry's traditional business model was...

Two-blades ranger with two bastards - kosher?

Style specialization could totally get you two longswords--the 2e fighter's default choice. Look: you might think that paired longswords is abhorrent from a stylistic perspective. That's fine. What's misguided, however, is condemning players who choose to use two bastard swords as immature...

Balancing Single-Attack Powers with Multi-Attack Powers

Exactly. I think it depends on whether or not the ranger's balanced as a striker, and, if not, where the problem is. (Is the ranger broken, or the stormwarden/pit fighter?) I honestly don't know!

Balancing Single-Attack Powers with Multi-Attack Powers

I think the issue has more to do with particular powers than multiple attacks in general: I don't think things really got out of hand until Martial Power. I'm pretty okay with the ranger being able to hit a single opponent more than once--it's a neat perk distinctive of the class, and, given the...

"Balanced high," or "It's still balanced, but it's swingier."

Let me try suggesting some health and healing rules, taking off from RangerWickett's. I'd be super grateful for any critiques! Hit Points and Stamina This starts with the hit point/stamina split from the OP. I'd try a not-quite even split, making role and Constitution disproportionately...

"Balanced high," or "It's still balanced, but it's swingier."

Yeah; I think this is absolutely on the right track. Just increasing damage solves a lot of problems! Combat's swingier because each attack roll matters more, and missing a turn from being stunned or poorly positioned can make a much bigger difference. There are a bunch of ways to do this. I'd...

    Demigod Revision

    I agree with that limitation.

    Demigod Revision

I don't like how the Demigod's "Divine Miracle" ability gives a carte blanche on encounter powers. Consider the following fix: Divine Miracle (30th level) Whenever you spend a healing surge, recover an encounter power. If you have no encounter powers available, you can spend a healing surge as...

    Duskblade Paragon Path

It looks balanced and interesting--good job! I particularly like how the abilities highlight the class's defender archetype, and emphasize sophisticated tactics and a magical bent.

    Sure Strike.

What's you're take on a version of Sure Strike that just lets you roll twice and take the best result? That boosts both accuracy (by the equivalent of a bit more than +3 attack) and crit chance (generally almost doubling it).

    Adventuers Valt Q&A

The AC bonus is nontrivial. The rapier just went, I think, from the rogue's main larger alternative to the dagger to a fringe alternative to the double sword. (IMC, I'd make the rapier both heavy and light, and the double sword purely heavy.)
