D&D 5E 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

In my opinion FR is written very prescriptively. It tells how things are, not how things could be or what the color of the world is. It has lots of (unimportant) history, and it reads like a history book. If it offered tables and tools for creating your own ruins and 'forgotten realms', people...

D&D 5E Looking for animal/beast stats to convert to 5th edition

What kind of stats do you exactly need for either? AC and HP? I'd just give a hare 1d4 hp, AC 13 (it's very small and fast). A mouse is inconsequential but it could have one hp and AC 14 (it's tiny). That being said, here's a post about hare stats from Dragon 280...

    D&D 5E low population world/setting

Some kind of Strange New World setting would work well. Think of Americas but without the people. Dimensional portals and Stargates might work too, depending on what the players are actually supposed to do.

D&D 5E 10% of Phandelver mining wealth amounts to ...?

Depending on what kind of contract you wrote, the dwarves might do some creative accounting and you'll get nothing. Mine consulting fees are getting out of hand.

D&D 5E Does anybody else wish that WOTC would release paper pawns, similar to Paizo?

Google image search or scan some of your favorite monster art, photoshop/gimp it, print it, and make your own paper minis. It won't take more than 15 minutes. I have dog didly done it. I bought cheap plastic stands for them.

    D&D 5E XP for Gold in 5E?

My house rule is that I give xp for gold if you spend it carousing - and you have to roll on one of the several carousing tables I have. So far it has worked alright.

    D&D 5E Critical Hit Question

I use the Paizo crit deck too, but with a couple of additional rules: - Players can choose to either do double damage or draw a crit card on natural 20. This exists mostly to make the game faster and sometimes you want consistently more damage instead of a special effect. (e.g. against mooks) -...

    D&D 5E Drawmij's Instant Summons: Am I Missing Something?

Jim Ward (Drawmij) is still alive and I'm sure you can contact him online. Ask him what his original reason for this spell was. EDIT: Wikipedia actually tells the origin of the spell:

    Magic Item/Artifact for BBEG

Is the point to give this item to the player characters after the fight? If yes, ok, but it seems very powerful. If no, why not bake these into the monster stats?

D&D 5E Hoard of the Dragon Queen Maps Suggestion

You can also buy the digital versions of the maps from the artist's homepage http://theredepic.bigcartel.com/products I bought a couple of the old WOTC Map Packs, made a couple of my own and used what I already had to spruce up the encounters. I don't feel too tied to the provided maps since...

D&D 5E Monster Manual - What pictures really stood out, or changed your view on a monster?

Behir really stood out with its serpentine body. It's almost mythic in its appearance. OTOH I'm really disappointed at the devils and demons. Most of them don't look supernatural enough. They're just cartoony and not intimidating, freaky or unnatural. Here's some better devils/demons...

Immersive Healing- A gritty system of injury and healing for D&D 5e.

My go-to gritty rules for combat is getting fatigue from critical hits and from dropping to 0. It works better than ever 5e. Recovering from fatigue might require you to get a good long rest which isn't possible on a dungeon floor.

D&D 5E DMG Spoiler: Death Domain

It's possible they have this power over the dead because they control part of the power of Kelemvor. They don't have to use it. On the other hand, religious hypocrites and moralists exist in fantasy worlds too, and they might use animate dead but forbid others from using it.

D&D 5E Slow Rests: Anyone Tried It?

Firstly, the obvious result is more emphasis on and reliance in healing magic. If long rests take several days, it's also harder to get rid of fatigue. Secondly, what is your goal? What are you trying to achieve? Altering rest lengths is just a method. In my game I wanted natural healing to be...

D&D 5E [Tyranny Of Dragons] What character are you playing?

I'm the DM but here's the characters. My players decided they'd all make elves. Stats were generated with point-buy and Savage Worlds Fantasy Character Generator was used to flesh out the backgrounds. The first two characters are half-human brothers from a minor merchant family. The parents are...

D&D 5E Hoard of the Dragon Queen: As it Turns out, it's Pretty Good (so far)

Or you could order them from Amazon and save a substantial amount. 5e is about 90 USD in total + 45 USD for the adventures.

D&D 5E 5e Do How Often Do You Use Skill Checks for ‘Monster Knowledge’

I don't like locking knowledge behind random rolls so I use knowledge as a resource. Basically it works like skills in GUMSHOE games - you get a number of points which the players can use to know (or sometimes narrate) things they have studied (in 5e the areas you are proficient in). One thing...

D&D 4E 5e What Skill(s) would you use for the 4e equivalent of Dungeoneering?

If you feel the Dungeoneering skill would serve your campaign, just add it to the skill list.

D&D 5E Fighters and Feats, Oh the Humanity!

If you played 5e in "OSR mode", you wouldn't use point buy in the first place. You are just complaining about arbitrary parameters you set. You could easily utilize the +1 to all if you started with different point buy array of your choosing.

D&D 5E DMing, Sandboxes, and Boring Dungeons. HELP

My general advice first, based on my tastes and experience: 1) Plan the campaign from the antagonists' viewpoint. Don't make assumptions about PCs actions. You are creating the premise for adventure in a sandbox, not a story and definitely not the plot. Those are created through play. Your PCs...
