    4e Cosmology Changes

I like it, primarily because the Feywild and Shadowfell are eerily similar to some of my old homebrew ideas. I think the Elemental Chaos and Astral Sea are good places for adventures too. I have gotten a lot more good ideas for adventures and campaigns from the new planar set-up than the old one.

    Mongol

It is also worth noting that Ghengis Khan introduced the very first written language for the Mongols. Until that time, the Mongol's language was only spoken.

    Are the WOTC forums borked?

That is a pretty big exaggeration. The Wizards forums usually work pretty well. WHile there are times when they crash, that happens to every forum or website from time to time. Can you honestly say that ENWorld has never had bad weeks?

4E Combat isn't like WoW, it's like Street Fighter.

Fighting games like Street Fighter are not a bad thing to borrow ideas from if you want a dynamic combat system. From what I have read in interviews, the developers of the MMO City of Heroes looked at a lot of superhero fighting games such as Marvel vs. Capcom for inspiration for their combat...

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

It looks like the OP is assuming only Normal DC skill checks. How would a mix of Easy, Normal, and Hard DCs affect the outcome? If only a few points variation can swing the chances of overall success, then changing the DCs by 5 or so points between different checks in the same challenge should...

    Endurance

No, marathons are definitely uses of the Endurance skill. Endurance races and the like require a very different body type than short sprints and jumps. Have you ever watched the Tour de France? The sprinters in the race are generally heavily built guys who use strength (Athletics) to go really...

    Why Fighter/Mage?

I think you are underestimating the age of that trope. It at least goes back as far as Oedipus and Odysseus. In fact, the hero using his wits to outmaneuver a foe who is more physical or magically powerful is as old as myth itself, in every world culture.

    Whatever happened to Virtual Reality?

I actually tried on a couple 3-D headsets at the Game Developer's Conference. Neither one of them was very good (and one in particular was downright awful). I think it will still take a few more years for immersive VR technology to be ironed out.

    Classic warriors: Warlords or Fighters?

I say the Lord of Blades is a Warlord who acquired Fighter and Artificer powers through class training feats. King Boranel is certainly a Warlord. Eberron leans heavily towards Warlord in general.

    Filling out the Powers

That really depends on implementation. I would argue that a class built around making gadgets and grenades would not be martial. Here are two possible powers for a grenadier/gadget class, the first one wouldn't be martial, while the second one is martial. (Please forgive the sloppy/incorrect...

If 4th Edition didn't use the "D&D" moniker...

I would probably but it. After all, I purchased Iron Heroes because it tried to solve some of my problems with 3E, and 4E seems to solve those same problems even better.

    Static vs. Tailored Encounters

Okay, in this example, you decide to send a dragon against the party in order to create a survival situation. You know the PCs can't defeat it at the moment, but you intend for them to be able to overcome it someday. I assume this is one way to motivate the PCs to go adventuring. Isn't that a...

Is D&D Really Mythic Roleplaying? Is this what Epic Tier (20th-30th lvl) represents?

First, I don't think this is a particular trope of mythology. In written fiction in general this is a common trope. Did Aragorn really get stronger over the course of the Lord of the Rings? Not really. He started off with all of the skills he used through the story. Ditto for Gimli and Legolas...

    Static vs. Tailored Encounters

I have to wonder something about some of the arguments that the static camp are making. There has been some talk that if the party wanders into the lair of the local red dragon or tries to take on the giant fortress while they are still low level, the PCs should not be able to win. My question...

    D&D 4E Weapon variety in 4E

There is actually a thread right now on the Wizards of the Coast 4E Classes forum asking people what weapons they plan on using if they play a Fighter in 4E. There is a surprising amount of diversity. Spears (both one-handed and two-handed) are easily at least 30% of the vote, with axes bringing...

    What's this so-called MMO influence????

A few people have mentioned earlier in the thread the theory that Striker = dps. I am not certain that there is evidence to support this claim. I don't think that any WotC employee has ever claimed that Strikers do more damage to enemies than other characters (in fact, I vaguely remember them...

    Abstract HP

Dausuul, I have to disagree with you on a few of your points. Particularly the bit about Natural Healing on a daily basis. You use it as an excuse for why Hit Points are a bad abstraction, but it is actually a pretty good example of where hit points work very well. The part you forgot to mention...

D&D 4E Should terrain be move vulnerable to damage in 4E?

About the discussion of making it too easy for the PCs to bypass the dungeon: Right now, it is already possible for the PCs to bypass walls in a dungeon by using spells such as shape stone and move earth, as well as various teleportation and etheral spells. This means that, once again, the...

    Weapons

That, that is so wrong that I was compelled to de-lurk just to correct you. In every description I have ever read or heard about real life combat and fighting techniques, I have seen the opposite: stab wounds kill faster because they penetrate internal organs. A stab wound to the heart, lungs...
