D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

I think 5E's subclasses can easily be co-opted into making 2E style kits.

Must You Tell Your Players What Adventure You Are Running?

None of my players buy, read, or even know any adventures in print so I could tell them, but it's not like it makes a difference. Basically the equivalent of me saying, hey guys I'm running The Circumflex of Spiral Aardvarks. They would be like, okay cool.

What magic system that uses some form of power points (e.g. casting spell x costs 3 points) is your favorite?

What magic system that uses some form of power points (e.g. casting spell x costs 3 points) is your favorite? Edited to make it more clear what I'm talking about.

D&D 5E How many times in an adventuring day does your party spellcaster cast a cantrip spell?

I was just looking at the old BECMI and AD&D 1E tables and trying to figure out if what difference in casting spells at the table with at-will cantrips available. So I guess no particular class or level per se, but yeah I can see levels 1-10 vs a level 20 caster being different.

D&D 5E How many times in an adventuring day does your party spellcaster cast a cantrip spell?

Think about what spells your party members cast during any given day of adventuring. How often are they casting cantrips?

D&D (2024) Should Saving Throw DCs just be Ability Scores?

Could just eliminate attributes all together, give proficiency bonus x2 for class saves/skills/rolls and standard proficiency for other rolls. That gives you +2-6 for non-proficient and +4-12 for proficient.

D&D (2024) Why No Monster Creation Rules in D&D 2024?

And nobody cares about your opinion any more than they did in 1984. Reality is the publisher decided that they didn't want to include it the same as they didn't include a formula to make new spells, magic items, or classes yet every one seems to be fine with the lack of instruction on how to...

D&D (2024) Why No Monster Creation Rules in D&D 2024?

I'm not sure why this is such a huge deal. The editions released in the 1970's, 1980's, and 1990's didn't have any formulas and yet plenty of new monsters appeared in official, 3rd party, and fan material. Same with spells, magic items, classes, etc.

D&D 5E How do you handle monster knowledges in your game?

It seems you are fundamentally misunderstanding what a successful die roll means. When the fighter rolls to hit the monster and his to hit roll beats the target number, do you make a 2nd roll with a random chance that the fighter didn't hit, but actually missed or hurt themself? That's what...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

Because they planned poorly and got the files ready for print too late. It was released in January 1974, you don't celebrate your 50th anniversary on the 51st anniversary. Clearly? rolls eyes

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

It's now 2025 and they haven't released the Monster Manual. So they didn't even get the core 3 books out in the 50th year. And that's the bare minimum.

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

If the planning started 4 years ago, then it really is mind boggling that they failed to execute a 50th anniversary release during the 50th year.

How open are you to trying new systems?

Some years back I ran a one-shot each month using a completely different system. It was nice to mix it up a bit and get some of the unplayed games off the shelf.
