Help reign in a player who refuses to play his role

I'll admit I've intentionally played my share of somewhat useless characters in 3.5 (though I never sabotaged a party or refused to help if I could). Mostly because I rebelled against the few optimal builds that totally outclassed everything else. And if other optimized power-gamer characters...

    Trap finding...

That's the level 4 trap. The level 5 trap has just the 22 and 27 DC's. But hitting the 22 is enough to avoid the trigger plates for the trap. I agree that disarming should be cooler than smashing them but I'm thinking that might be more the problem with skill challenges than anything else.

    Trap finding...

Okay. The DC 27 referred to in the OP is to spot the control panel for the trap. Merely to become suspicious that something is amiss the DC for the same trap is only 17. Now, for the hardest DC at that level, 23% doesn't seem that bad at all. Especially considering that your Rogue isn't...

    Trap finding...

My math might not be so good but even if every person in your five person party needs a natural 20 to see the trap don't you have a 1 in 4 chance of seeing the trap? Add a +5 to just one of those characters and now you'll find the same trap half the time.

    Stealth Spelled Out: Interpretation/Home Rules

This is my attempt to interpret/home rule stealth for my own game. It ended up longer than I wanted but I wanted to remain as close to the RAW as I could while still making it work for me. Hopefully, its long but less complicated because I'm trying to consider every creative contingency so...

D&D 4E The Economy of Actions in 4e

I think this class wouldn't be much fun for any of the players or the DM. The person playing it would have to pay close attention for triggers or miss them and also accept that on their own turns they can't do anything cool and if nothing triggers an interrupt they may never do something cool...

    Rapier is Superior?

Seems like it would be important for a fighter or paladin who takes the Rogue multi-class feat.

Cloak of Invisibility: Best item in the game?

It is a sweet item, but that's why it's epic. It's hard to imagine a DM going "gosh, you're killing Orcus, he continues to flail around blindly". If, as a high-level PC you were faced with an enemy with this item, you would likely either come up with a creative way to locate or trap him or...

D&D 4E Is it just me, or do damaging effects suck in 4E?

So, technically you could have even more than 121 enemies caught in the burst if some of them are flying right? Assuming the burst is three dimensional. Someone find me some flying minions to slaughter!
