    Alignment Issues!

Nine alignments. Screw Unaligned. Make a choice. And you know what else? Even if the alignments are not described to perfection for everybody's liking, it doesn't matter. Players are going to have their interpretations of them, and that's just fine. Alignments, like them or hate them, are the...

D&D 5E What the heck were they thinking?! There's going to be "fire" in D&D 5th Edition!?

This just confirmed from a quote by Bruce Cordell. "Playtested in the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. My cleric burned several downed trolls before they could finish off the unconscious paladin." Where there is burning, there is fire. Where there is fire, there are fireballs. Where there are...

    What?! I can

Finding the Path for Saturday, 7 January, 2012

I don't know what your schedule is like Viktyr, but I think articles like this would be immensely appreciated on a weekly basis. They don't have to be as long, but a more regular than monthly appearance of your feedback goes a long way towards promoting Pathfinder and 3.x D&D. Plus, you have a...

Gamers Seeking Gamers - now with interactive search and map!

I am having a similar issue to all the previous posters. I am not seeing the map and the field in which I type my location never saves after pressing the "go" button. There is no "save" button of which to speak (probably because, as the directions says, I should be clicking save "in" the map)...

    Little Known Rules of D&D

"Most ranged weapons can't be used while the attacker is prone, but you can use a crossbow or shuriken while prone at no penalty." I knew about the crossbow, but the shuriken was a surprise to me. Page 151 of the Player's Handbook, third footnote.

    New "Dead Levels"

sjmiller. In the first article I state ... "there's no harm in admitting that such benefits don't inspire the same enthusiasm as a new special ability". That's all. There's no harm in admitting that you want a special ability "cookie" at every level. There's also no harm in not wanting that...

    New "Dead Levels"

Well, speaking as the author, my view is most emphatically *not* that gaining new spell levels is insignificant. This is evidenced by the fact that the "least significant" dead level abilities (abilities that were already more flavorful than powerful to begin with) were granted to any dedicated...

    New "Dead Levels"

As the writer of the articles in question, let me add this much... The first article was generally received by people as a "band-aid" for the perceived deficiencies of the core classes. That was never my intention. In this latest article, I wanted to make that point abundantly clear. Dead...

Do players need something cool every level?

My feelings towards that article have gone back and forth quite a lot already. Do people like it? Do people dislike it? I've gotten both "yay" and "nay" responses to those questions. In fact, I've had at least one person both love and hate each set of dead level abilities. My mistake was trying...

WotC 2006 January through April releases

Thank you for stepping in Michelle. You too DungeonmasterCal. I guess "Kolja" is too foreign a name to be recognized as male. For the record, Kolja is short for "Nikolai" (much like Bill is short for "William"). Crimson_Manticore has already deleted his post, so I won't belabor this point any...

Weapons of Legacy: does anyone have it yet?

That is exactly right. Moreover, the Least, Lesser, and Greater Legacy feats are "free" when the ritual is completed. You do not have to burn a level-dependent feat on them. :)

    Weapons of Legacy preview

It is predominantly weapons, but there are a few other types of items as well.

    Weapons of Legacy preview

I'm not sure how many weapons made the final cut but Travis and I created a whole bunch of them. Some were common, some were exotic. That's all I'm saying. ;) You got the right idea. To quote the preview... "Here's basically how it works: Once a character has taken possession of an item of...

    Weapons of Legacy preview

Oh trust me, they do. Each and every one of them. :) You are correct. The legacy feats are "granted" feats that you get for successfully completing an item of legacy ritual. You don't have to burn any of your level-dependant feats at all. :D

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

I hope you don't mean Zogonia, because that's the only cartoon I look forward to reading in Dragon right now. As for new cartoons... Order of the Stick should be given a full page every month. The link I've included starts you off at #1, but there are currently 130 panels to read (131 by...

The elemental savant from Complete Arcane

Well that's why! You play dungeons and dragons to "get away" from science. Whereas I clearly don't have enough science in my life. :(

The elemental savant from Complete Arcane

Well, if you can rationalize a fluid-based earth elemental, then I don't think you'll have much problem with the elemental savant as presented. Personally, I like my fantasy magic to start from a base of science and then break the rules from there (not the other way around). :) I try not to...
