D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

So were encumbrance, group initiative, individual initiative, weapon speed, weapon type vs armor type, parrying rules, and a gazillion other things that were in the PH. Optional doesn't mean they're not there in a core book. And if you're saying a core book isn't core, then I would suggest...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Simply disliking something doesn't mean it's not authentic. Simply not using a thing in your own game doesn't mean it's not authentic. Neither of those mean it's not core. It seems they're defining "authentic" as being core, because they're listing "optional" books like the Complete Psionics...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

I think maybe when they said "0e and 1e", they were saying that Tasha's Cauldron of Everything pretty much replicated (in some way, or similarly) or covered the way psionics were in Eldritch Wizardy and AD&D.

Ah. Oh,, okay! Gotcha! 👍 I would offer that you do have a history with it, then. Perhaps not extensive history, but you're right in there with us! 😊 Although, ... don't listen to people on the internet. LOL 🤣 (including me!) 🤣

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

It's just one of those things gleaned from a lot of other points ... Gygax wrote historical fantasy in his games and books, because he came from historical wargaming. So, a lot of people see the nuances in his work which influenced his other writing and whatnot, so they put it together...

Out of curiosity, if you have no history with the setting, how would you know what "something new" is?

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

There was issue over the sons using Gygax's material, an the Estate's mishandling of Gygax's material. There hasn't ever been an issue over the IP holder (WotC) using Greyhawk. Gygax's Estate never owned Greyhawk. But, there's a whole thread about it, right here on ENWorld. Fair Warning...

Yep. Give a DM a poster map ... and they're gonna want to use it. Especially a brand new DM who's buying the DMG for the first time.

That's likely because humans of the Flanaess are almost never of a single straight cultural background or ancestry. Just like the real world.

D&D 5E Who are the famous characters of D&D

I know this is Thread Necromancy ... but, this just kinda broke my heart a little. You're not wrong. The names in the PH and DMG are definitely mostly known for their spells or magic items. Many are from the Circle of Eight, a powerful cabal of wizards, or more generally from the World of...

WotC Wizards of the Coast Is Moving -- But Not Far!

As an editor: much of this thread has been about how insignificant the move is. However, one important note for those who must do such things is—citation and bibliography. Now, instead of, It might say, That's a minor difference, I know. It's also likely there are not a lot of people to whom...

D&D 5E With Saltmarsh, how much of GH is now fair game?

Considering it's actual legal advice which doesn't actually follow the actual policies of the DMsGuild or WotC, and there are plainly available products which support Greyhawk content ... it seems at least inaccurate. They meant well, I'm sure. But, there's not any basis for the list of...

D&D 5E With Saltmarsh, how much of GH is now fair game?

Well, No worries. The only catch is the "AFAIK". But, there's nothing wrong with that. Not knowing is simply not having gotten information, yet. But, I can help there. So, one can search names of individual adventures, and there's a slew of stuff. There's even DMsGuild Silver, Gold...

D&D 5E With Saltmarsh, how much of GH is now fair game?

I'm having a little difficulty following the rationale on this one. Iuz is mentioned in: The Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, Ghosts of Saltmarsh, Tales from the Yawning Portal, DMG, Princes of the Apocalypse, and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. That seems like more than enough to include him...
