    D&D 4E No d100 in 4e?

My favorite D&D die has long been the percentile die -- the d10 labeled 00-90 -- ever since I played a 1e Fighter-Thief who had a wand of wonder (fond memories of conjuring grass beneath my enemies' feet). So I am growing a bit concerned that my favorite die might not even be used in 4e. We...

RPG stats for all Dungeons of Dread minis

Sounds like a good theory.... But if the continue-conclude mechanic requires multiple hits by the monster, it would hardly ever work for the Bralani, which has to recharge its Curse of Autumn. It makes more sense that the Vampire is able to Dominate using one minor action and two failed saves...

RPG stats for all Dungeons of Dread minis

I think that's right. The "continue" effect happens after the first failed save, and "conclude" after failing two consecutive saves. Like what we've heard about petrification effects: first you're slowed, then immobilized, then stonified. :D Love it.

    Ability Scores

It's two +2's for the human. If the human cleric has +2 to Wis only, then it's: Str 14 (6 points) Con 12 (4 points) Dex 10 (2 points) Int 12 (4 points) Wis 16 (10 points) Cha 12 (4 points) Total: 30 points Conclusion: the human gets another +2. It could have been assigned to any of the other...

To the Designers: May we please have the DDXP errata?

I think it's more likely that a warlock can choose a power from the wizard's at-will list as an encounter power.

To the Designers: May we please have the DDXP errata?

The halfling paladin's Will Defence dropped from 16 to 14. And the Wizard's Scorching Burst description got broken up across the column, which is fugly.

    Upcoming Classes Speculation

Sorcerers, along with Barbarians, Bards, Druids, Swordmages, and Monks, are mentioned in Races and Classes as being under development. There's even some nice art of a dragonborn sorcerer. To differentiate from the Wizard, a Sorcerer "barely controls the power he wields." "Even after a spell is...

    Upcoming Classes Speculation

I would move Druid and Sorcerer up to the first group and rename it "110% postive." The rest is about right, I think. p.s. Congrats on de-lurking after 4.5 years. :D

Warlock's Curse, Fey Pact and a Bag o'Rats...

We haven't seen the full description for Warlock's Curse yet, but even the brief snippet given on the character sheet states that it must be placed on the warlock's closest enemy, not "a living creature" or a "rat from a bag o' rats." And spending all of your actions for a turn isn't exactly...

D&D 5E Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

The argument could be made that a sneak-attacking rogue is already scoring a critical...it's a deliberate critical or called shot, as opposed to hitting a vital area with a lucky hit (natural 20).

D&D 5E Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

    For those who think math is spiffy, the equivalent multipliers for maximizing the following die rolls are: 1d4 --> 1.60 1d6 --> 1.71 1d8 --> 1.78 1d10 --> 1.82 1d12 --> 1.85 xdy --> same as 1dy, e.g., 2d6 --> same as 1d6 So, for example, when you crit with a 1d8, you're doing 1.78 times...

Holiday Present - The Elf PHB entry

Hmm, that's true. All of the Paladin smites that were previewed a while back seem to use Cha to modify both the attack and damage rolls (in place of Str).

Holiday Present - The Elf PHB entry

That would mean that elves have better racial stat boosts than eladrin; but this could be balanced out by giving eladrin better racial powers, such as their nifty "feystep" teleport ability. So maybe Int and Cha does make more sense mechanically. I'm itching to play an eladrin "fey pact"...

Holiday Present - The Elf PHB entry

This version of the elf would easily have a +1 LA in 3.5e, if not +2. I guess this is healthy power creep? ;)
