Regardless of Edition, what do you like about D&D?

I love the tactical combat that is part and parcel to 3e. I like the grid. I like knowing exactly what's going on in combat and making decisions based on that. D&D just isn't complete for me without the abstract tactical decisions.

    Powergaming, who is on board?

Given that the OP ranks the ability to chip in for Coke over ability to RP, I find that I don't find his dedication to RP particularly impressive.

Requiring Players To Draw The Dungeon Map!

It is not part and parcel to the dungeon experience. The thread is full of people who've dungeoneered just fine without it. Thus your point was demolished before you even posted. And to follow up with the 'ole "Go play your little videogames" is beyond hilarious.

    Universal RPG's not Universal?

System has a huge effect on a campaign. I think the most obvious example of this is the spontaneous death rate, i.e. the odds a character will be killed without it being the players fault. D&D 3.5 starts out at a low spontaneous death rate(SDR), then gets way higher as save or die...

    Modern Saga?

Totally agree with Michael Tree. I don't really see anything that needs converting, at least from a crunch standpoint. Slap on different fluff and get playing!

    Goblin Pirate Dragon Shaman

Have you considered heavier armor? Dragonfire adepts don't really suffer from non proficiency penalties because they so rarely make attack rolls, and he doesn't seem to have any combat invocations. Might not jive with the nautical theme though.

So, what if a player does a 'weak' build?

Rebuild, rebuild, rebuild. As GM, help them tweak the character until it's effective. There's no need to start new characters when you can just rework the old ones.

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Brehobbit : You can't dip for stances the way you describe because the first stance(s) you gain from a class are required to be first level. As for flavor, you can play Crusaders and Warblades without any wuxia flavor at all, easily. I'm doing so in a game I'm presently in. Swordsages aren't...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Rystil: I said that adding SR to all of the maneuvers would be a fiasco. As for applying it to the energy attack maneuvers, as you said, I don't see why you'ld bother, they aren't great to begin with. As for uses/day, I intentionally avoided it because it's entirely situational based on your...

    An Evil party... Troublesome?

I'm sorry, but I'm not likely to change my behavior in order to placate unreasonable people. As for evil campaigns, it's really not that hard, as people have said. Just make sure that everyone knows where the limits are, and make sure you get everyone's input on setting those limits.

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Adding SR to the effects would devastate the Bo9S classes. With the exception of the problem maneuvers, initiators have paid the cost of avoiding SR by having their powers be inferior to equivalent level spells. Mix in the MAD that those classes have and you will have ruined the work done in...

MMV: Not sure I like this...

I agree with Glyfair. Who cares about whether something is better or worse than an epic feat? Balance is a relationship between party members. Some feat printed in an older book which none of them has access to is the height of irrelevance. When DMing, I control character creation options...
