    D&DXP: Skills...

They get Ritual use to make up for it, though. But on the other hand, so do Clerics. Hrm.

So Int does NOT add to skills

I dunno, man. What do Charisma or Wisdom get that same fighter? Who knows? Maybe Dexterity is a little too good. Or maybe there's stuff we're not seeing. Could go either way on that one.

So we got the sheets, let's calculate the crunch!!

Looking at skills... It seems like everyone except the wizard get 4 class skill picks, with the human getting +1 trained skill and the ranger getting two bonus skills by default (I predict Nature and Perception). The wizard only has 3 class skills, but took skill training as a feat in Stealth...

So we got the sheets, let's calculate the crunch!!

It does seem like the fighter has more ways to manipulate her enemies' positions on the battlefield, though. And it's possible that both the fighter and the paladin just get the default mark for free, and the fighter focussed on more strikerly stuff while the paladin focussed on the defendery...

So Int does NOT add to skills

Also true. You can finally afford to have low Dex as a fighter now as long as you're smart.

So Int does NOT add to skills

What point is there for a wizard to have high strength? To do a couple extra points of damage with a dagger? I'm sure there are a few feats that key off of Int. Seems like reason enough to me.

So Int does NOT add to skills

What? It clearly provides a bonus to Arcane, History, Religion (!), and Nature(!). Also the current theory is that you take the best of Str or Con for your Fort defense, the best of Dex or Int for Reflex, and the best of Wis or Cha for Will. Combined with clearly adding to hit and damage for...

So we got the sheets, let's calculate the crunch!!

Yeah. We gotta remember that Saves and Defenses aren't the same thing anymore. That's gonna take a loooooong time to unlearn.

D&D 4E Catching up with 4ed - let me know if I've got some of this right

4e is actually emphatically NOT like a CRPG. In CRPGs, physical types are generally relegated to mashing the "fight" option over and over again, while the spellcasters get to play with all the cool options. What it clearly does take inspiration from are WoW's martial classes. Warriors and...

    D&DExp Character Sheets!

    My theory: +6 = 5 (trained) + 2 (racial) -1 (Wis)

    D&DExp Character Sheets!

Bit of reverse engineering that can be done from this: Warlocks get 12+Con Score Hp at first level, and fighters get 15+Con Score. About what I expected. Healing surges look to be 1/4 hp. Warlocks get 6+Con Mod healing surges per day, while fighters get 9+Con Mod. Fighters get a bonus to fort...

    D&DExp Character Sheets!

They're doing away with negative racial modifiers. Ability modifiers are exactly the same as they were in 3e.

Low Damage, High HP ... How is this "Faster"?

No, they don't. Neither the Pit Fiend nor the Spined Devil had half their level added to their damage. It was all based on their raw strength bonus ("Strength Modifier").

Are stat modifiers really bonus + 1/2 per level?

No. There is no more BAB. Attacks are probably going to be "Ability" or skill vs defense. There is no need for BAB in that kind of model.

    D&D 4E Is Intelligence 4e's dump stat?

I think they're trying to make is so that no stat is important to every class. We've seen that they've dramatically reduced Con's importance by divorcing it from level up HP. At the same time, though, they're designing powers for every ability score spread out through the different classes...

Are stat modifiers really bonus + 1/2 per level?

I think there's a difference between "Dexterity," "Dexterity Score," and "Dexterity Modifier." Dexterity Score is the 3-18 score you have for your character. Dexterity Modifier is the initial bonus you get from that score. Just "Dexterity" is that modifier plus half your level. Let's say you...

    Reframing the 15 min day

To be honest, I'm probably going to change "per day" powers to "per session" powers. As long as powers are working on a per encounter narrative basis rather than in game time, I see no reason why per day powers shouldn't work the same way. It also solves the problem of starting a new session and...

    Dungeons of Dread Preview 4

Also, since poison is rarely used by PCs in general, it should be way less annoying than an energy immunity.

    Dungeons of Dread Preview 4

I'd bet even money that the Immolith is an elite, judging from its abilities. That might be where the extra hp is coming from.
