Just got Dragon 315 - Campaign Classics

I can only speak for the Red Steel article (that's the one I wrote). The material wasn't taken from Vaults of Pandius or any other site. Although I read and keep up with the various Mystara sites and boards, the only source materials I had for this article were the original "Voyage of the...

Books you get a suprising amount of use from

Me too. Also Fiend Folio - good stuff in there, from the Graft Flesh feat to the official introduction of swarms (before MM v3.5).

As you got sucked in to D&D, when did you know?

I didn't have a single defining moment when I considered myself 'hooked' - I just always knew I loved playing D&D, right from the start. There is one moment I always remember as being my first "Wow" moment. Back in middle school, when the party beat this hydra that was pictured on the back of...

    [OT] I am thankful for...

Go Shiv go! As for me, I am thankful for... ... wonderful wife, great family. ... job that I love. ... super friends (not the Saturday morning cartoon kind, although that would be cool too). ... health, gaming, living in America at the dawn of the 21st century like alsih2o said, pets...

    College Football

Congrats to the Wolverines. We had a gameday today, but I taped the game, so now I'm going to sit and savor the victory. Congrats to the Buckeyes too; well played and I will be rooting for them in their bowl game. I truly feel that the Big Ten is the toughest conference top-to-bottom out there...

    Liches

I really enjoyed Goodman Games's _The Complete Guide to Liches._ It has tons of sample lich NPCs and new lich templates, which makes it very useful for me. It also has new spells, rules for lich artifacts, rules for becoming a lich and crafting a phylactery, etc. It's the kind of product that I...

    College Football

Hail to the Victors! With OSU and UofM both in the top 5 in both polls, Nov. 22nd should be very interesting (assuming both teams win on the 15th). I love how the Big Ten comes down to this game so often.

    Are gamers smarter?

Indeed. This is Howard Gardener's theory of multiple intelligences. You hear about this all the time in schools (I teach, and if I'm not mistaken, Eric works in a school as well). Personally, I believe it is a misguided attack on the idea of intelligence. Gardener and his many converts mean well...

I wish I could have included them too. There was only so much room in the article! :) Next time...

    Are gamers smarter?

Only anecdotal evidence, not scientific or statistrically significant, but for what it's worth... I teach middle school and high school, and I run a computer games room in a summer camp. The kids who are interested in pen-and-paper gaming are, in my experience, definitely above average in...

3.5, 3.0 products, and YOUR game....

In all 3 games I play in, we've converted to 3.5. We really don't argue about the rules much anyway, but it has gone fine. No issues to speak of. In the campaign that's been running 4 years, the PCs are 16th level, and they have grumbled a bit to the effect that "Well if there had always been...

Why did you start the hobby?

I saw an article on it in "Hot Dog!" magazine, something that you could get through the Scholastic Book Club back around 1981 or so. I told my mom to get me that game - she did - and no one I knew, including my mom and me, could make head or tails of the rules. Then my aunt said that my cousins...

    I like 3E, but I miss...

I thought I said the reverse: that class choice could dictate the power level of the campaign. You are saying that the power level of the campaign dictates class choice. I think 1e allowed for the former possibility. 3e still allows for it, as well. My gripe is that too many people moan...

    I like 3E, but I miss...

Another vote here for level titles, neutral assassins, rangers with magic-user spells, effective multiclassing spellcasters, and a DMG that included a treasure trove of tables, miscellaneous info, and reading recommendations. My biggest vote goes for the idea of balance, however. (/rant on) In...

Are you/Have you been involved in a really long-running campaign? Tell me about it

I was involved with a ten-year campaign from 1984-1994, with occacional games after - it only broke up because people moved out of state. More recently I've been involved with a 1999-present. How did they hold together? Well, first and foremost, in both cases we were all friends outside of D&D...

    Adventures from Songs

Not quite a song, but my adventure "The Return of the Blessed Damozel" was based on Dante Gabriel Rossetti's poem, "The Blessed Damozel." That adventure was in Dungeon 92, I think, or some issue right around there. The text of the poem is here.

    Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures! WOW!!!

I've been enjoying the minis too. At first I was skeptical about the randomization, but it is indeed kind of fun to open them up not knowing what you'll get. And, since I'll use all of the figures eventually anyway, I don't have to worry about paying for minis that I won't use. Good job by WOTC...
