Developing a "points of light" campaign setting

Hey, thanks for the quick responses folks. I'm liking some of these ideas. Keep 'em coming. :D

Developing a "points of light" campaign setting

I've been working to update my setting for 4e. I've got almost everything figured out, except what to do with the two most powerful wizards in my setting. Both are very high level, even by the standards of epic characters. One is a neutral evil lich wizard, and has conquered an empire, and has...

D&D 4E What will your first 4E campaign look like?

My setting will be getting a bit of a timeline jump, to a point where good faltered (the heroes of previous editions have bludgeoned evil pretty hard, after all), and evil rose up in a big way. It's a little like a cross between Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, and Mystara. A lot of the heroes of the...

    D&D 4E 4E "Return to" adventures

I realize this... I was going for humor ;) But, yes, you are right. Encounter design is a little different, and dungeons will have to incorporate that kind of change (except maybe ToEE, where there are lots of multi-monster encounters).

    D&D 4E 4E "Return to" adventures

    - Return to the Demonweb Pits - Return to the Steading of the Hill Giant Lord - Return to the Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl - Return to the Forge of Fury - Return to the Haunted Halls of Eveningstar - Return to the Shady Dragon Inn (for lots of cool characters!) I'd love to see returns...

HUGE SCOOP! Chris Perkins confirms my suspicions on unlimited Rituals

Hmmm... Mind if I borrow that? I really like this idea. It's a wicked-awesome idea.

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

100% agreement here... I've run entire sessions where not one dice had to be rolled, because players were engaged in dialogue. They described their actions, they made plans, they talked with NPCs, they got their adventure hooks, everything... and all by really great storytelling and roleplaying...

Camping: It does a body good!

Sorry Kordeth! I didn't notice you had made a similar comment earlier on. Glad to see that great minds think alike, though. So, John McClane... paragon-level fighter? ;)

Camping: It does a body good!

It's definitely the cinematic-hero approach to damage, in most cases, that I prefer. I want my heroes to be like John McClane (Die Hard)... he can get beaten up, shot at, thrown from vehicles, etc., but he can soldier on. In fact, he can rest between the fights and regain most of his health...

You Maniacs! You Blew it up! Damn You! Damn you to Hell!

Gooble-gobble-gooble-gobble! Ha! Wormwood, I like your style. Seriously, though... welcome to the 4e fold, friend. ;)

4th edition IS Shadow of MYSTARA!!

I loved this game, back when it (and Tower of Doom) were still in the local arcade. However, I figure you could extrapolate the game into each edition of the game (I did. I ran a very successful campaign which mirrored it, back when I was starting out in DMing). This edition will be no different...

D&D 4E Vote for your favorite 4E PHB cover!

It is his version of the green dragon fight. I voted for the dragonborn/wizard cover, however. I chose it because the green dragon fight is the character sheet cover, and I figure that's fine by me.

    Zeitgeists

Shall I call you "V"? :D Also, that's an awesome article. Gave me a lot of ideas, particularly for events of the past in my homebrew world (Currently in the process of building several thousands of years worth of history). This will definitely be something I'll be using as a point of...

Keep on the Stormfell vs Sunless Citadel

I'd be inclined to believe that it is going to be good. They'll be wanting to showcase a lot of the coolest aspects of the new rules, so they'll be trying to throw in a lot of variety and interesting new concepts. Yes, there might be hand-holding, but it will probably be woven right into the...

    I need a Gnome!

I actually played a gnome until I retired him. He was a fighter/rogue/duelist, and wound up with a hook hand (which eventually had the ability to burst into flame on command), a peg leg (which he could use as a scattergun [took a full minute to reload, so it was only useable once per...

Do We Need A Bard Class?

The bard has been a D&D staple for a long time. I have always enjoyed playing them. I anticipate their arrival in 4e will be awesome. I could see a number of powers centered around music... different "dirge", "ballad", "melody" powers could be really cool... perhaps they could be modified by a...

    Dragon Editorial: Fearless

As it has always been throughout D&D's 30+ year history, the game is what you make of it. My campaigns typically have a lot of dialogue, politics, intrigue, along with healthy doses of action and excitement. Just because combat plays more like an action movie doesn't mean that the whole campaign...

DDXP, 4th edition, and Forgotten Realms
