That is actually how I started my RPG experience. I had a group of friends, none of us had any experience with RPG and since we all wanted to play, we created out characters and we rotated DMs. Each one of us would DM an adventure and treat his character as NPC. Worked great.

Not sure I know what you mean by market, but PCs could buy and sell magic items in my games. o_O Also, there were some sourcebooks with prices for magic items, like the Encyclopedia Magica books. I also remember there was a site which listed the prices for all core magic items....

I have a friend who has decided to DM AD&D 2nd ed again, but it's been such a long time that neither him, nor I, remember how to find the market prices for magic items. The DMG only lists the XP values. Does anyone remember how to do it?

Maybe you should try creating situations where the MM wouldnt be very useful, which would force the spellcasters to think of using other spells. Maybe doing that, they could learn/like using different spells and not get so addicted with MM as before. A few examples were given here, and I bet you...
