"Don't Borrow What You Can't Replace"

As someone stated, it is a quirk of the game, but I actually integrated it into one of my character's attitude. It was a Ravenloft campaign and Sturn (my character) had a pretty tenacious grip on life, something the rest of the party did not have. Over the course of the campaign he saw...

    Friends or Strangers...

My first "true" group was in college, most of them I knew socially before starting to game, but a couple of them started as strangers and have since become very good friends (in fact one of them became my wife). When I moved across the state I had to start over, though a friend referred me to a...

    Who lives in Washington DC?

Do you like be surrounded by screaming children otherwise? Sorry, kids have gotten on my nerves tonight and couldn't resist.

Do You Prefer to Play a Human PC When RPGing?

I prefer dwarves because, well ... I just prefer dwarves. That being said, there are getting to be a number of exceptions. Prior to discovering my mini painting addiction (and the ease to which said painted minis integrate into D&D 3.5) I prefered dwarven characters. Now I I'm pretty...

Unique religious titles in the game?

I'm fond of His Holiness the Emperor, Speaker of the Heavens and Chosen of Claris Sol. Of course, that's a bit campaign world specific and likely a bit higher level than you are looking for. Grand High Poobah is another favorite. Sorry, it's late and I'm a bit groggy...cursed insomnia

    Computers at the gaming table

I've been contemplating adding computer access to my table. The room in my new house that is going to be the game room is also seconding as my office. The layout is such that it would be quite easy to integrate my desk into the "DM Station" of the table. I'm curious about other people's...

    Dragons with class levels

I've been tempted to in the past, but that desire has now passed. MMV cured me of that desire with the Dragons of the Great Game. Now I've got far more entertaining (at least from my perspective) things to do with my dragons.

    Wizards 2008 releases?

Well, guess my bank account is safe for the beginning of next year. Well, at least when it comes to anything new getting added to my want list. Now to just get caught up on the backlog.

    Torg/Master Book RPG system...

I loved the idea of Torg, I could just never get my players interested. On the other hand we had a truly memorable Shatterzone campaign. I loved the card concept, the "wild" cards of Shatterzone added a particularly terror to play. I never got into the other Masterbook stuff, the worlds just...

    Orcs: How Important Are They?

Orcs, to me, remain a necessary part of my D&D campaigns. However, I am now moving to more sparing use of them. In my current campaign world they've been relegated to the barbaric hordes of a desert waste, poorly organized and mostly just bothersome raiders. I've always loved hobgoblins and...

    Boise/Meridian ID - Starting a new group

Without delving into the inconsequential details, I'm starting up a new group. I've got 1 likely player so far (would like no more than 6 + GM) with a possible 2nd. So I'm looking for 4 or so more. Logistical details: 1) I'm moving into my new home mid-August, so I'm looking to start the end...

    Kobold Quarterly: Issue 1

I just finished it and I am most impressed. Everything in it was great and I particularly enjoyed the Erik Mona interview, which I wasn't expecting as I'm not terribly fond of interviews. Is it too early to get KQ a 2008 ENie nomination :)

I've got mine, but I haven't gotten around to reading it. I'll sit down and devour it this evening.

    Thinking about languages

Yoink! I'm going to implement this into my upcoming homebrew. However, I do have one question, how would you handle a character's native language? I'm thinking at first level they get 1 + Int bonus in freebie points for Knowledge ("language"). I'd consider Knowledge ("native language") to...

How do you like your halflings best?

While I posted my preference to a feral mini-elf halfling previously, I'm actually going a different route with my homebrew. My halflings are nomadic inhabitants of a massive grassland. I suppose the best RL example would be a cross between Native Americans and Gypsys.

How do you like your halflings best?

I voted 3.X mini-elves (Lidda, skin tight leather, mmmm) Really though I like a mix of feral mini-elves. Oh and in the immortal words of Dogsquat, Feral Athasian Halfling, "I'm no cannibal, I'd never eat a Halfling."

How do you like your elves best?

I prefer 'em with smoked for 8 hours and served with BBQ sauce, cornbread and beer. However, Teriyaki will do nicely.

Is there a good mapping program and/or a character data base?

I too tried using Campaign Cartographer but just got frustrated. I now use Autorealm for all my mapping needs. It's free, relatively simple to use and you can generally get a question answered at the Yahoo group.
