    Improving Skills through use.

Amended for ease of use Skill Points: You no longer multiply skill points by 4 at 1st level and your base maximum ranks is equal to your level. Class Skills: When you place a skill point in a class skill, you gain a +3 class bonus to all uses of that skill. (This is the Pathfinder rule.)...

    Improving Skills through use.

I've been thinking of tweaks for an E-6 game and the following thought came to me as an alternative to skill points. At first level, skills are determined normally as per the paizo rules. That is, characters select a number of skills based upon their class from their class list. They gain 4...

    Jump checks and Ability checks

I don't have a problem with the 1' jump, he tripped. I do have a problem with the 20' jump though. As for the 40 strength, he can just take a 10.

[San Jose, CA or online] Player seeking game

I semi-run (it's a round-robin, but I'm usually the DM) a heavily modified 3.5 campaign on AIM Friday nights from 4pm-8pm. It's in a low-magic campaign world that was started from scratch as it slowly grows with our adventures. Experience is given not only for adventures, but for contributing...

Hombrew Settings; 11 Base Classes, Which Ones Would You Choose?

Cleric: Cloistered variety only, PHB cleric is too powerful. Fighter: Add in some marshal abilities to represent their position as military leaders. Paladin: Gotta have paladins. Add in some knight abilities. Ranger: Could also fill the shoes of the barbarian. Add a rage feat for those who...

    Skill = Profession

I simply allow any reasonable skill to be used as profession. Whether it be craft, survival (guide), knowledge (sage), or whatever.

    D&D 3.x What parts of 4E should I bring to 3.5?

I second Ritual Magic. I wish I had come accross ritual magic a month before I did. If I had, Ritual magic would be the only magic available in my low-magic campaign as opposed to allowing only adepts.

    Online 3.5 Looking for Player

I actually have been having trouble loading maptools on my, so I'm out. I was just suggesting one reason you're not getting any responses.

PC concepts I'd love to play...

The character concepts I want to play haven't really been limited by dms, just circumstances. A) Halfling servant. I know that sounds like an odd character to want to play, but I just want to do it. He'd be very weak in combat, and would basically be the put upon henchman. B) Halfling twin...

    Online 3.5 Looking for Player

Well, I don't usually play over maptools (I prefer AIM chatrooms) and avoid gestalts (they're inherently too high-magic for me), but one thing that might be turning off those who otherwise be interested is the no multi-classing rule. People like to multi-class.

Campaign Summaries; how does this look?

Out of the four, I like 1 the best. I can definately put my finger on what turns me off of 2, tieflings and dragonborn.

11 Multiclassing Feats for those who dont like PrC's

Looks broken to me. A +4 to BAB for the cost of one feat? Yikes!

A look at my House rules

The problem I see with giving a feat every level is that it destroys the fighter, with the bonus feats gained through the class becoming nearly insignificant. Perhaps you should create another fighting class to pick up the slack.

Fighter Variant Rules - Improving the Fighter

But the gladiator also gets sense motive, so giving up feats for an ability that will only work on other gladiators 50% of the time is a bad deal. And while small scale team battles weren't terribly unusual, they were far less common than simple one on one combats.

4th Edition made a great Paladin...

I hate the new paladin. I dislike the image of them now being a traveling light show.

Fighter Variant Rules - Improving the Fighter

Why is the Gladiator a Fighter/Rogue? With even more limited non-combat experience, why do they get more skill points than a fighter? Why do combatants mainly trained for single combat receive a sneak attack ability that they'll rarely be able to use?

    D&D 3.x Skill Challenges in 3.5

Wow, who took a dump in your cheerios? It's not even a new concept in DND. If you've ever had a DM ask you to make a jump check as you jumped a chasm, and then a balance check for uneven footing on the other side you've just completed a skill challenge.

Forget D20 Modern, bring back Alternity. I miss you Alternity.

    DMs! Who are YOUR composers?

Agreed. My players know to break out the dice when his stuff comes on.

    D&D 3.x Skill Challenges in 3.5

I don't really understand the whole "skill challenges" thing. Giving the players a DC for a skill, sometimes requiring multiple checks with different skills, isn't exactly a new concept. That's pretty much the way every campaign I've ever been in has done it, except now it has a shiny new name.
