D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

If players try and do multiple short rests, just say that you only rested a couple hours, you would receive not benefit from doing so. The DM gets to say no if it doesn't fit in or the players try to game that aspect of the mechanic.

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

No really. I bought the Master tier just so that my players could create their characters using the books if they didn't already have them. Seems like only a fair thing to do.

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

The majority of my group have played Pathfinder 1 for the last 15+ years and asking them to pick up D&D 2024 was surprisingly easy. I had gotten bored of the ridiculous amount of over-optimising and power combos of feats/spells, and wanted something simpler. I had only played 5th once before and...

D&D General Scarred Lands vs Wilderlands of High Fantasy - preference?

I ran both during the days of 3.x and out of the two, myself and my players preferred Scarred Lands. I ran two campaigns with Wilderlands and no one was really impressed by the setting. I remember one player saying it was Greyhawk lite, meaning that it felt extremely generic and without any...

    Optimization and optimizers...

Until the Daggerheart playtest last year, the idea of a session zero never even existed to my group. People would chat on our FB messenger and just say what they wanted to play in the next campaign. No mention of optimisation, just who was playing what. I'll try and explain it better, although...

    Optimization and optimizers...

Respectfully disagree, It isn't about badwrongfun or that some people are very skilled with the system/character rules in an RPG. Speaking from experience, it comes down to having a player in a group, especially if they join a pre-existing group, who wants to do the +3 to +5 on the optimization...

    D&D General DALL·E 3 does amazing D&D art

I'm still trying to work on my dinosaurs in the real world concept. It's getting better especially since I had the idea to ask the AI (ChatGPT in this case) how to work for what I want.

D&D General In this day and age, people still laugh when you invite them to play D&D.

Many years ago on these forums I remember a poster who said that they could never let their colleagues or managers know that they played D&D. The reason being that although we've come along way since the panic of the 80s that it was still frowned upon in some business circles. I remember them...

    Optimization and optimizers...

Optimisation isn't the problem. We all do that. It's over-optimisation when no one else at the table plays that way. I had this problem years ago during 3rd edition D&D. We had a player who over-optimised to the point that he was leaving everyone else behind and refused when asked by the other...

What makes a successful horror game?

I ran numerous games of VtM 3rd edition during the late 90s and it was never about horror. Vampire was a game of politics and intrigue in specific setting. Everyone realised that and that was how it played. Even when I played briefly with other groups, it was the same. It worked better that way...

    Aging and Gaming

My verbal descriptives also goes out the window. I spend a lot of time thinking how to describe something and when the time comes it just comes out wrong a lot of the time. Definately an age thing.

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Item Armour sale question

A question has come up in a game I am DMing and we've scoured the books and seem to be missing something. We're still trying to get to grips with D&D 5th so apologies if this seems like an obvious question. The Paladin in the party found a suit of Mithril Half-Plate but wants to sell it now to...

D&D 5E (2024) Man I hate the organization of the 2024 Monster Manual

I only use the physical book (DDB is for character creation in my case) and I'd have preferred the classic method where creatures like Dragons, Golems, Devils... etc, were individual creatures are under that heading and then alphabetised. I find that much easier to keep track off when I'm...
