The upcoming Forge of the Artificer book has a bastion option for airships if I remember right. Depends if you can hang on until then for that. As for the flying boat itself, I'd go with what @Remathilis suggested.

I started D&D in 87 at the age of 15. I prefer physical books over PDF but PDF are still cool. I very much prefer forums over Discord.

We changed to milestone rewards mid 3rd edition and have never looked back, for the reasons you mention here.

Give me full campaigns/adventure paths. 1st to 20th level. That is what I am missing under 5th edition.
