D&D 5E (2024) Potion miscibility, permanent effects and using potions in the future.

Your assumption is that the unknown ruling is bad, without actually knowing what it is. I can understand it because I've done the same, but it's flawed reasoning all the same.

D&D 5E (2024) Potion miscibility, permanent effects and using potions in the future.

I guess it depends on how you treat "permanent" magicks; often Dispel Magic will only suppress a permanent effect for a time, not remove it entirely.. but perhaps that's just a house rule from playing in previous editions?

Disagree on this :) High strength is useful in many situations.

If you're a fan of potion miscibility tables, use lower-stakes versions. The typical tables are good for one-shots, but otherwise, yeah, permanent 25 strength is pretty broken :')

D&D 5E (2024) Programs or Games to visualize Bastions?

It's a Stronghold-lite-ish system with the framework of some events n such. The benefits can be anything from making common equipment for you, to making magic items, to research, and more.

Necessity of a Social Negotiation System? – When Should It Be Relevant?

I had thought that dice rolls should be used when the outcome is in doubt- not just when failure will have serious results. Other yeah, agreed, there's a limit as to what a die roll will get you. It's not mind control, the shopkeeper isn't going to give something away just for a good die roll.

Keeping the World Dangerous – A Monster Scaling Table for a Sandbox TTRPG?

Everything being same-ey as far as threats/difficulty is what sort of killed Elder Scrolls Online for me. The better method IMO was City of Heroes' mentor system where you were leveled up/down to play with a friend.

D&D General Read aloud text in modules: What are folks opinions about read aloud content?

I like having it as long as it's punchy. It shouldn't be half a page like some of the worst offenders of old.

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

13th Age is kickass. It's heroic fantasy on its face, very much like but moreso than 4e. I ran it for years. I'll be interested to see the 2nd edition. One of the few pain points of 13A 1e was dealing with the Icon dice RAW.

Wonder if he's done with TTRPGs or just done with WotC?

WotC WotC (Mistakenly) Issues DMCA Takedown Against Baldur's Gate-themed Stardew Valley Mod

Yup, IP enforcement is absolutely a balance when deciding what to enforce on. PR is totally a consideration. You can have the legal right to remove something, but if there is a bad backlash for it, is it really worth enforcing your IP in XY instance? will you lose more than you gain?

WotC WotC (Mistakenly) Issues DMCA Takedown Against Baldur's Gate-themed Stardew Valley Mod

I learned a few weeks ago that printing very thin/fine book paper is actually more expensive than thick.

Generally they're provided with examples and/or lists of targets, but beyond that it's up to judgement. This of course assumes that they contract out to a BP company/IP firm 🤷‍♂️

WotC WotC (Mistakenly) Issues DMCA Takedown Against Baldur's Gate-themed Stardew Valley Mod

Hey, it was my job too! On further thought though, since WotC was completely within its rights to send that DMCA... it's more likely that they ARE responding to PR backlash.

Yes, and humans make mistakes. The scale at which DMCAs are sent out by BP companies can be very large and it involves a lot of tools for automation. Does that make it OK that a mistake occurs? No. OK so you refuse to call it an accident due to semantics and ethics- that I can understand.

Yup. Brand Protection companies. You're spot-on. That's literally it, yup. I can't speak to this specific circumstance obviously, but those things happen. You don't need docusign to send a DMCA. If you want to call it a failure of process instead of an accident, fine, cuz yes someone somewhere...

WotC WotC (Mistakenly) Issues DMCA Takedown Against Baldur's Gate-themed Stardew Valley Mod

Accidental DMCAs happen. It's usually because someone new did it, or they're using a crappy Brand Protection company, or it's something automated/AI-based (been out of the IP game for a few years now, not sure what's been advanced in that field).

D&D General Matt Colville on the “Forever DM”

I guess it was like, what, 8+ years ago? Within the first dozen or so RtG videos. Colville was really very inspirational for me, even though I'd been DMing on and off for years (playing for longer). I went from running once per two weeks, to running once or twice per week. His manner is a little...

There's a music video from a cartoon somewhere that explains code-switching... Can't remember the show, though.
