D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

This thread is like a Greatest Hits of every ENWorld argument ever all at the same time! :ROFLMAO:

As someone who plays in your game, I suddenly feel hoisted by my own petard. 🤪

D&D 5E (2014) The books I used for 5E game prep this week (in pictures) [+]

Personally, I find even the stinkiest stinker to be more inspiring to make something interesting from that most other monster books I’ve encountered (from WotC/TSR at least). But anyway this thread is not about arguing the merits of these books (as I suggested in the OP) but just about...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Yes! And frequently I have a "I have ruined this mini and may give up" phase before I realize I am overreacting - esp. the first few after even a short break from painting

D&D General Read aloud text in modules: What are folks opinions about read aloud content?

I ran through this adventure as a player in 2000 (my first 3e character).

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I kept AC hidden when I used THAC0. We just had modified THAC0 numbers on the PC sheet, they’d subtract the d20 result from that number and tell me the result which is what AC they hit and I’d tell them if that was good enough. It worked fine for us for over a decade, and I don’t think it was...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I love a Taylor Ham breakfast. The second best thing to come out of Jersey after Bruce Springsteen and just barely beats out William Carlos Williams.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Nice! I have minis I got early on in my mini painting career that were so fiddly to pin and put together that I gave up and have returned to intermittent years and have given up on repeatedly. I finally assembled one of them successfully but I think I still have 2 in a bits box somewhere. In...

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+]

OK. . .for real this time. . . Here is the latest thing I have been working on Chapter 17 of my homebrew setting and 5E ruleset, "Gods & Cosmology." I know it is kind of a mess in its current form, but I wanted to get all this info down and sometimes when I am on a roll I just go for it. It...

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

I know everyone is different, but in my style of play, the second roll, serving to build tension and have an active chance to avoid the effect (aside from just AC), is more valuable than the miniscule amount of time saved by not rolling more dice. In my experience, people like rolling dice!

D&D General 2nd edition player handbook class examples.

I guess the success of the examples depends on what you think they are supposed to do. If you think they are supposed to represent the exact characters of their type you can make, then yeah that’s a fail. If you think (as I do) that they are just familiar figures to help broadly inspire people...

D&D General How much do you care about rule change specifics?

I don’t get “upset,” but I do have preferences both for some grandfathered rules and for house rules we’ve been playing with no matter the edition. Anyway, as far as I’m concerned D&D is best when modular and home brewed.

D&D 5E (2014) Adjudicating Hide, You Decide Challenge!

It would seem silly to me to rule that the halfling has to be assumed to be "occupying the entire square" if he were not actually engaged with anyone that might cause him to move around the square during the fight. (And to be clear, I am a strong proponent for the idea that using a mini/token...
