    D&D 3.x Combining 3.0 and 3.5 - A Thread

This is exactly how we did it when 3.5 came out and it was never really a problem. I never owned the 3.5 DMG or MM. So basically, we only changed most player facing stuff. I know everyone has different preferences, but depending on your group, I'd say don't sweat it, just change (or don't...

D&D General The D&D Memes Thread

8d8 citrus (i.e. acid) damage + 8d8 bludgeoning damage! Fantastic spell!

D&D 5E (2014) Mage Hand and Trap Avoidance

Is it safe to assume that if a mage hand can only carry 10 lbs, that is can also only apply 10 lbs of force? (I wish it had a Strength score). I ask this because I can imagine plenty of traps that mage hand might not serve to set off.

D&D 5E (2014) When do you short rest?

We still currently use 1 hour short rests and like someone else said above, I find they use them about once or twice per adventuring day, sometimes 3 times. Never have I seen 4. Plenty of times it can also be 0, of course. Whether a short rest is even possible is something the players usually...

That is part of my ideal set up.

Dice with character...when is using them cheating?

As long as they are legible I don’t give a toot. I have one player who occasionally uses dice that are too hard to read and she struggles. It is not that I don’t trust her (and when we play online I let everyone roll their own dice in person and use the honor system), it is that it takes her too...

    TTRPG gaming tables

I have a 64” x 44” dining table I got from a secondhand/ goodwill shop a few years ago that has two leaves, each one can extend it 16 inches, so at max it is 8 feet. It was pretty beat up but for $40 and the amount of use I have gotten out of it, it is more than worth it. I usually only use 1...

D&D General Honey, I shrunk the party!

I was coming to mention this one. I ran it back in 2E days but plan to run it again for 5e. I also always wanted to do a sequel where every thing is giant sized.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I recently ordered a mini that was perfect for an encounter likely to happen in tomorrow's session but it had arrived with just barely enough time to be painted before the session when we had a plumbing emergency that ate up so much time, other things having a higher priority than finishing it...

    D&D 5E (2024) Do We Really Need Levels 11-20?

Also, just because advancement stops at level 10, doesn't mean that you still can't use higher CR monsters, just like my level 6 group recently had to deal with a CR14 vampire - they just couldn't fight it head on. EDIT: I originally wrote "can" when I meant can't. Ooops!

D&D General What's your second favorite edition of D&D?

I can't decide between B/X and 2E with Combat & Tactics (not Skills & Powers).

    D&D 5E (2024) Do We Really Need Levels 11-20?

Ha! My guess you'd be even more turned off that hitting level 7 can take 3 or more years of playing! Getting to11th level (which was a 3.xE game) took 5 years of playing for 5 to 6 hours every other week. (Anyone interested can download the compiled and revised complete story hour in PDF form...

    D&D 5E (2024) Do We Really Need Levels 11-20?

I’ve played and run D&D of various kinds since 1983. The highest level any PCs in any game I’ve run (including years long ones) is 11th level. It is usually more like 7th. For my own homebrew rules et project I stopped at 10th but kept higher CR monster and higher level spells through...

D&D 5E (2024) My preferred way of playing D&D 2024 is... miniatures or not?

I probably watched the same video, but it has been a few years, so I forget whose channel it was. We use the sticks for both a gridded and non-gridded surface, as it also helps those who struggle with proper diagonal movement which I personally cannot stand not using.
