D&D General Harshest House Rule (in use)?

I'm genuinely interested: what is it like then? If you were playing a scene, what would it sound like? It sounds very different than I am familiar with, so I'm interested to hear about it.

D&D General Harshest House Rule (in use)?

I just have to ask: what does "playing a game" mean? To me, asking and answering questions is the core game loop for most of a session. So what does playing the game look like to you?

    D&D 5E (2024) Why aren't you using 5e 2024?

It's not even out yet. And while it does things like make the Monk a playable class, and give fighters a way to get extra attacks or Advantage on attacks, what exactly is it doing better? Some spells are cleaned up but some are also unbalanced. And when I look at games like Fabula Ultima or...

    Best wuxia RPG?

This is such a good book. At the start of it you get one view of the way the world works. That is really changed by the end of it. And yes, I tear up at the scene you're talking about every time.

    Best wuxia RPG?

May I suggest Into the Badlands as something to watch along the same lines. I really liked it, although the last half season dropped off.

Blades in the Dark Gets First Official Expansion

I picked this up a couple of days ago. There is a lot of stuff here. Changes to pretty much all the core mechanics. I'm seriously going to have to give it some thought. I have only run a Scum and Villainy game but have played a fair bit of Blades, so I think I can get a good handle on things. I...

When Do the 5E “Ride or Die” Folks Become Grogs Like The Rest of Us in “D&D Older Editions” And When Do We Get D&D 5E Flair for Posts?

Honestly the 4E stuff goes on to this day. I just added some folks to my ignore list because I didn't want to fight about an edition that's long out of print. I really do think that 5E has been received much nicer, though. There are people who hate it, like any edition, but the design managed...

Trying to Describe "Narrative-Style Gameplay" to a Current Player in Real-World Terms

I have played several campaigns of FFG's Star Wars and I have to say that your player isn't wrong. But neither are you. Star Wars isn't a game about getting gear and loot and equipment progression. I think the series that uses it the most is the Mandalorian and at some point they just lost sight...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reducing Power Gaming

I have to agree here. I love me some PF2. I'm running it and I would really like to play it more but it doesn't seem to deal with the OP issues. I'd really suggest they look at Shadowdark for a 5E chassis on a much lighter and lower powered game.

When Do the 5E “Ride or Die” Folks Become Grogs Like The Rest of Us in “D&D Older Editions” And When Do We Get D&D 5E Flair for Posts?

I think this is an interesting discussion. I find it really interesting because I'm not sure what the selling point of the new 5.5E actually is. I've been going through the new PHB and I see major development with the new fighting styles/weapon properties and then a lot of other stuff that ... I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reducing Power Gaming

The big question I want to ask is: what do your players think about this? Are they having fun with 5E as-is? If so, you have a problem. The DM gets to have fun like everyone else, but if the players want something you don't want to give them, that's a problem. My suggestion is to take a look at...

D&D General Does WotC use its own DMG rules?

This thread has made me need to go buy some additional locks, chains, and steel spikes to keep Internet Warrior SteveC locked up. Fortunately, the new additions have held.

Fabula Ultima Offers A Good Beginning To A Final Fantasy

Except that they do. Here's another clip from the game: I think that's pretty direct. The fact that the game has Fabula points for PCs and Ultima points for the GM ... it's the name of the game. And I don't see the difficulties of success as so low. When I played the game, and by my reading of...

Fabula Ultima Offers A Good Beginning To A Final Fantasy

I've been thinking about that for when I run my own game. I run via VTT, and there's a module that reminds you every hour or so to give out a Hero Point. I don't know how useful that would be for Fabula Ultima, but I think something that reminded you about it would be helpful. The thing is that...

Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd Cover, Synopsis Revealed

Oh sure! I just have a particular soft spot for Ravenloft novels. It's a weakness. Maybe my equivalent to getting an invite to Hogwartz is to get an invitation to dinner with Strahd.

Fabula Ultima Offers A Good Beginning To A Final Fantasy

The flow of Fabula Points is much like Fate Points from Fate. It's essential that the GM keeps them going in and out at the right rate for their campaign. I know that in Fate "there's not enough Fate points" is one of the most common complaints. I'm sure it would be the same here. If you want...

Fabula Ultima Offers A Good Beginning To A Final Fantasy

I wanted to quote what you wrote to respond to it. Frankly, outside of combat you do make fewer checks in Fabula Ultima than other games. The game encourages it in the rules. I took a little snip from the relevant page: In combat, you make a check each round, but again, that's where your...
