    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

This is the big question. Will they move to DH on Critical Role? I think the decision has to come from what people are saying about the new system, and especially what their existing fanbase has to say about it. My Magic Eight Ball is pointing to "signs point to yes" right now. Critical Role is...

There's A Diablo TTRPG (and boardgame) Coming!

It's interesting that this hasn't happened yet, and I'm not surprised. I think it would be really difficult to get the feel for Diablo (or Grim Dawn, a game I also love!) in a tabletop RPG. I would be genuinely surprised to see if you could get the feeling and pace of those games for a TTRPG.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I think that while Daggerheart can do a lot, it can't do everything. And options/rules/settings ... you name it, those are coming. The game is just getting started, and it seems clear they want to do a lot with it.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I've been watching the Umbra series and I think Matt's doing a solid job with it. If you have the time, I'd say it's worth watching.

Ivan Van Norman Leaves Darrington Press

I would say it's closest to early seasons of Supernatural, before the meta-plot really kicked in. Or the X-Files when the episode wasn't about the ongoing conspiracy.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

To be sure. Daggerheart isn't trying to be an all-things-to-all-people game, and I expect there will be plenty who bounce off it, have your meh reaction, or just hate it. That's another reason why I think D&D isn't in any danger. I do hope that it expands to be another viable alternative to play.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

This is a situation where what I want to be true just won't be. I'd love for Daggerheart to explode onto the scene and take the rpg world by storm but D&D is a brand. Its the “xerox” or “scotch tape” or “google” of the gaming world. People just know the brand. Now I think it will grow...

Ivan Van Norman Leaves Darrington Press

The ones I really note are Blades in the Dark (Jonathan Harper) and 13th Age (Rob Hensoo and Jonathan Tweet). Fortunately they have a solid "inspirational sources" list, which looks like this: (Note: Mods, if there's any issue with posting that screencap, I'll remove it).

Dark Horse Reveals First Dungeons & Dragons Comic

Hearing about this new book, I thought I might want to check it out. I appreciate this discussion because I now see this book is not for me. Not going to yuck anyone's yum, but not for me. Like some other recent threads, it will be interesting to see how it does.

Tomb Raider RPG Cancelled For Creative Differences

I have to agree on this. I have a friend who's very excited about Outgunned so I'm going to get to try it. From everything I've seen about it, it's high-octane action-adventure-centric. I'm not sure that was fully the intention of the Evil Hat game, it seemed more PbtA-based, which I'd call...

Tomb Raider RPG Cancelled For Creative Differences

I saw this and was initially surprised because they were talking about creative differences. I thought the game ideas I was seeing were really in line with what the licensing company was trying to do, at least from what I've seen recently. But I also wasn't surprised because this was taking a...

Ivan Van Norman Leaves Darrington Press

I do think that he will be missed. My major interest, as someone who likes Daggerheart, is how the change in personnel affects the development of the game. I don't know how much interest, experience, or what the opinions on this PbtA/narrative gaming are with Perkins and Crawford. I literally...

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

This is such a good point. I have a friend who went all-in on the Avatar RPG. We played one session, and I really liked it. The problem was that no one else in our group, including the GM, did. The issue they had was that they were expecting a game with super-cool bending moves where awesome...

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

If you go look at the listing under Amazon, you'll see that it's a book, but also called a "game manual." I was looking at the Canadian site, and they don't have that category. I noticed that the new Eberron book used to have a ranking and be listed as a book, but it is now also listed as a...

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

Except that I followed the 5.0 PHB for years, and it was typically at about 100 to 180 for the entire time. There was an ongoing discussion about how many books the PHB was selling going back years, and I always found that, at least according to Amazon, it was doing well.

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

Oh I'm sure they don't mean anything. Except that they made it to the top 10 of all books. Now I'm sure this will likely drop off shortly, but I was wondering how long it would take someone to say, "This doesn't mean anything!" I plan on looking at this every couple of weeks. I used to do it...

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

I was just looking at Amazon Canada after someone mentioned it. Daggerheart is #10 in books, while the Player's Handbook 2024 is #313. So, at least for now, Daggerheart is winning the Canadian pocket book.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Daggerheart uses rest mechanics between encounters to manage the adventuring day. The thing is, the GM gains Fear when you rest, so I asked my players what they wanted to do. They managed the situation quite well. In the game I played in, I was playing a support character so as long as I felt I...

D&D General Todd Kenreck Let Go from WotC

I'm not advocating for this, but I just opened Gemini and asked it "create a narrative rpg for me using six-sided dice and tarot cards for action resolution." And it did. And it wasn't terrible. Then I asked "what would the combat system be like for the system you just created?" ... and it made...
